3.79 / 5.00 3,779 ViewsI used to be a movie pirate, meaning that I sold bootleg movies instead of just downloading them, I downloaded them from a website, burnt them onto a blank DVD, wrote the title of the movies on the DVD's using a permanent marker, placed the DVD's inside of small cases, and sold each of them for $10 each, and all of the movies that I sold were still in the theaters. What do you guys think about this? I know most of you just watch it online for free yourselves, but I made some good money with piracy back then, what do you think about what I was doing?
I remember those ads in the movie theaters that would advertise against pirating movies.
You should be ashamed of yourself. Rips suck for movies that are still in the cinema, 10 dollars was way too high.
I think there is a difference between someone who illegally downloads movies or such and someone who sells it.
Don't take this the wrong way, but I think that you should be ashamed of yourself
You took content that someone stole, and then you resold it.
Like you taking a stolen car stereo from someone, who recently stole it, and then reselling it.
I honestly don't care. The movie business is paid for with millions upon millions of dollars, and if they lose any money I really don't care. I don't care about the actors, the producers, I don't care about their families and honestly while I wouldn't love to see them starve one day, I might get a good chuckle out of it.
As for you selling them for $10 to other people, I still don't care. If people want to make a transaction for pirated property intellectual or otherwise that has very little to do with the benefit of mankind or a person/ small organization in need of the funds, there's no problem to be had.
The bigger the establishment, corporation, entity, or anything that is trying to get ahead as a private nonessential enterprise you're stealing from, the better. While I don't support or advise against stealing from these things, I most certainly don't see it as some sort of sin, nor do I see a reason to stigmatize you for it.

I completely agree here. The movie industry is one of the richest ones out there, yet they are still the first to bitch about it when they lose even the lightest amount of profit. Besides, Cinema is a form of art and i think that all art is independent from the artist, therefore it should be free for all to enjoy. Who the fuck has the money to buy 30$ blu-ray's every time you want a new movie anyways?

I would just show people how to download. You are/were a huge asshole.
Honestly I could make millions out of selling bootleg music software, but I choose to show people how to get them for free.
It's a pretty bad thing if you were selling them, but I pirate stuff all the time to watch it
I once came across this dodgy looking irish guy that tried to sell me pirated movies outside my local pub

I just wanted to leave, you know, my apartment. Maybe meet a nice girl. And now I’ve got to die for it!
Piracy is at the end of the day a crime. Regardless of justification/lack of care, laws exist to protect someone or something, in this case movie producers. I don't personally care that much about what you did, but I do find disrespect for the law a bit unnerving.
Those who do not learn from the mistakes of their past are doomed to repeat them.
Honestly, I've considered selling bootlegs as a source of revenue.
But then again, I do have some morals.
I figure the general consensus is that it's more morally bankrupt of a thing to do than just torrenting movies and watching them yourself, but nobody's going hungry over either decision.
You look nice today.
This guy brutally sodomizes me.
Cereal is pretty cool. If you're cool you'll add me on Steam. Also, Letterboxd.
Fuck you. Bootleg movies suck. I remember my mom bought a bootleg of this Tim Burton movie off a chinese guy and like 1/3 of the way into the movie the camera aimed at the ceiling and never went back to the screen.
Intellectual property my ass.
I don't support making money off of the creations of other people, but the only reason laws are in place for that shit is because the industry wants to maximize profit. They're not losing shit when you sell a shitty film of theirs. Now if the problem were widespread and it was frequent, then you'd have a problem.
Having said that, if there's someone who is an independent filmmaker or artist that relies on sales to support himself, there's a good reason to have those laws in place. I could've downloaded Clear Soul Force's LP, but instead I paid for it to support them. Stealing from those who have less is a total dick move compared to a big artist that makes money from other business ventures. Like Jay-Z. I refused to by MCHG. The only reason I had interest in the album was for the instrumentals. He makes so much money in other places that it's ridiculous to give him anymore.

What if the law maker breaks their own laws?
