It's cool to hate things that are popular. People hate Nostalgia Critic and AVGN all the same. They just don't hate those guys as much because they don't have 2 million subscribers on youtube and get paid to scream in front of a camera, nor do they have an obnoxious accent.
Granted, Doug does have a painful shrill voice.
There are tons of people that love PewDiePie, AGVN, and Nostalgia Critic and there are tons of people who hate those guys. There's no magical forumla.
Personally, I find PewDiePie to be insufferable. I watched one of his videos where he was playing a scary video game and he absolutely sucked all of the enjoyment out of the game by shouting inane nonsense like, "OOOOH YOU A SCARY GHOST OH NO!" and "IMMA RUN HELP HELP HELP". I'd compare him to the annoying little brother who just spouts off random shit at a loud volume to get attention.

Pewdiepie is the most subscribed person on youtube. He also has one of the most rabid fanbase on youtube.

This, this so much, another pretty boy with a web cam. If not for his style, he wouldn't get nearly as many people following him as he does. I remember my ex, who never played a video game outside of fb games, was really into him, can't explain that outside of reasoning other than his mop top, pretty boy status.

I personally like Nostalgia Critic, though admittedly, his quality has decreased over time.
The AVGN and PewDiePie were never any good to begin with. I really don't see what so many others seem to see.
PewDiePie just acts like a random idiot and The AVGN appeals to fans that enjoy excrement and fart jokes without any underlying depth.
At least Nostalgia Critic tries to be witty and thoughtful... and sometimes, he even succeeds.
