3.80 / 5.00 4,200 ViewsDoes anyone know of any taiko drum shows that are performed in the US? I've always wanted to see one really really, really, really really bad, but I don't wanna go to Japan to see one considering how the majority of people there are super hateful to Americans.
They're not super hateful toward Americans what are you talking about lol.
Every year at the Lunar festival in Riverside, CA, there is a taiko show that is about and 1 or 2 long.
Although I didn't watch it, I heard it while I was there. ( was hanging out with the cosplayers )

Everything I've watched on Asian travel says otherwise as far as the general public goes, they seem to love Westerners.
Or maybe it's just Westerners with cameras.
Japan probably has the most tolerance for Americans out of all of the Asian countries...
Taiko = awesome but I've never heard of any authentic festivals or anything outside of Japan. I'd say make the trip. See the country and make that one of your stops!
I just decided that I need a signature.

I heard that westerners who are white actually have alot of career opportunities in Japan. :)
At first after the war, the japanese were frightened by foreigners, but they have warmed up ALOT to us.
The japanese are super fascinated with foreigners who come to their country.

Me and my girlfriend both absolutely love Japanese culture and wanna spend a few months there at least once, but we're both afraid of the stereotypes that the Japanese might place on us.

Are you basing that off experience or do you just hate them personally?
japanese people don't really hate americans, however koreans are quite hated.

I can't speak for the country, but every Japanese person I've met has been extremely kind and had absolutely no problem with me. Also trust me on this one - make an effort to REALLY learn the language before going over there if you are worried about fitting in. People from any culture love it when you can speak their language well and don't just sound like some ignorant tourist. Think about how most people in America react when someone from another country speaks broken English.

I really hope you don't take yourself seriously.
I know there are a few groups in Connecticut that do it~ I think I've seen one of them with my grandfather. It's neat.

He's pretty right though, tons of countries hate America, for various different reasons. It doesn't really bother me, it just restricts where I feel comfortable traveling.
I wouldn't mind watching one of these live. Taiko Drum Master for the PS2 introduced me to Taiko Drums. I thought it was pretty neat.
Here's one. I fucking love taiko drums. They're so masculine sounding.

There aren't many stereotypes placed upon you. When I was in Japan, I was treated like royalty, almost to the point where it felt awkward. It has a lot to do with their honor system. The Japanese take their hospitality very serious. You don't need to worry about such silly things, I think Japan is one of the friendliest places to visit.

Well, she already speaks Japanese incredibly fluently, her aunt who lived in Japan for 35 years taught her when she was 9, and now she's teaching it to me, so I'm sure that fluently speaking their language would definitely makes things a lot better for us.

While that will certainly enhance your experience, I can say for sure that many people there speak English very well. Everyone I met in Tokyo spoke English flawlessly. I once asked for directions to the train station from a pedestrian and he gave them to me in perfect English and then he proceeded to apologize for what he thought was his bad English.
From what I understand, English is the most popular foreign language taken in Japanese high schools and universities.

it's a happy thought that no matter what you do, just because you live in the US you will always be collectively hated by the rest of the world, first world or third world.
and no matter how hard you try, education or innovation wise
everybody else will still laugh at you
and shit on you.
which is one of the main reasons why i'll never move to Canada, the other being obvious financial problems.
