Sneak Peek Here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RdLvd1p74yM
Opinions guys?
In Depth Review here:
Oh god, this THIS...actually wasn't terrible. In fact, I got a few good laughs out of it. It wasn't trying too hard to be odd or crazy or be surreal or big on action, just an odd kid trying to make friends. And who hasn't been there?
What did I love most? The flow, dialogue and overall story direction and character building. I like the Mother already and Clearance came off as odd but not too crazy, just quirky. Steve's little bro here is gonna be the foil to Clearance, being very smart and rational. The problem I see this show having is building minor characters and building its "universe" and cast. But I suppose its like any other show, its cast has to naturally progress. Like Regular Show whose central duo built itself into a cast of unique and interesting characters such as Muscle Man, HFG, CJ and Benson. TAWoG has always been cast heavy to demonstrate its many animation styles and since the pilot, has been more "community" based than being central to just the Watersons. So I believe it can remedy its duo to include a heavier cast without having them be one offs, the problem simply being making them interesting and being able to fully participate in the plot. One easy show to use as a guide is CN's beast of a show: Ed, Edd and Eddy, whose cast consisted of easily 9-11 kids each with a unique and entertaining personality (except Naz, fuck Naz), right now it seems to rely on being quirky, but comedy is really the route to go and opens up better Char. Dev. options. Also action, needs to come in at some point, get the ball rolling with some real conflict or else this show is going to be flatter than week old soda pop.
The animation is kinda, bleh, I don't care for some of the character designs but I think it can easily change, sheeeet, just look at pilots to other CN shows. I didn't like where it was going at the end though, I thought this would be an episode that builds up the relationship between him and Steve's little bro. And then they brought in that odd kid who's just as weird as he is. But I'm more of a fan of the two opposites as opposed to two nut balls (one is enough, m'kay?). I'm gonna go ahead and guess this kid somehow shows Steve's little bro "fun" by doing something he doesn't like (probs dangerous too) and half way through Clearance realizes its gone too far and has to do something about it.
Overall, this show has some pretty great potential, I think most of CN's viewers are burnt out on surrealism (Uncle Grandpa really proves this one), and the super natural. Its been a long time (relatively) since a show held an all human cast just playing out their lives in a suburb. The odd ball out as the main character was a great approach, and depending on how it evolves, this could easily become another favorite of mine and many others.
Cheers.

Uh, why would you/how can you make an "in-depth review" of a four-minute preview? That's like reviewing a trailer. And it seems especially silly considering the actual show is premiering in just two days.
But anyway, yeah, I remember watching that preview a few months ago and really loving it. It's hard not to crack up at the image of Clarence and the other kid giggling like Beavis and Butthead while one shaves the other's head. And the characters seem really well-defined and likable right out of the gate. A lot of shows dealing with similar material tend to either paint their nerds and outsiders in such broad strokes that it rings false or make those characters' outsider status a purely informed quality. But these kids are true weirdos, of the types we all grew up with (or were ourselves) but that are rarely made the main characters of a TV show. It's great.

I wouldn't say I'm burnt out on those kinds of shows (Adventure Time is still one of my favorite shows on television, I love Gravity Falls and Steven Universe has potential), but it's always nice to have more variety, and I do miss the more low-key realistic vibe of shows like Hey Arnold. So I'm definitely looking forward to this.

Ha, I didn't even know it was showing in 2 days, I just saw this sneak peek as a follow up link to a previous video and thought it was fresh or something. As for the review, its really just my thoughts on the show in general plus that Sneak Peek.

Yeah, I like the surrealism I'm just saying CN doesn't need to adding more and more of it. Gravity Falls is awesome and I wonder how their next season is going to pan out with Stan and such. I'm actually really into Steven Universe, its one of those shows were you have to sit down and watch a couple episodes to get hooked. But yeah, definitely been a while since a cartoon focused on the lives of "normal" kids in an average neighborhood, should be a nice reprieve.

In all honesty I thought it looked like a rip off of Uncle Grandpa.
Which in and of itself is an awful show.

Sticking with a formula you know works has never gotten anyone anywhere.

Not to mention Steven Universe.
I was kinda on the fence and didn't really know what to think about it at first. But now I like it as much as I like Regular Show. Though Regular Show does have those musical moments where they play some pretty good music.
