Like Morgan Freeman said when he was approached on the subject, there shouldn't even be a black history month, because it's everyone's history, and saying that these people should only be celebrated at a certain time during the year (not to mention that it's the shortest month) is treating them like inferiors because the other 11 months of the year, we focus on white history. Having a white history month would only increase the racial divide, and be redundant at this point because almost every month already is.

Being white is so awesome. Everywhere I go people are friendly to me and trusting of me and see me as approachable without any pre-concieved notions that I might be poor, or a drug dealer, or a gang member so much that I can't even fucking conceive the fucking notion other people are treated differently and shittily on an everyday basis because I'm an ignorant prick lacking any kind of empathy or understanding and I think there should be a white history month because that is only fair right?

oddly enough, hispanic heritage month does not begin on the first of any month. it is observed from september 15th to october 15th. there is significance in independence days, some of which take place on the first day of observance, though the period always seemed odd to me.

I don't think any race deserves a month to celebrate its history. It only serves to divide us. I haven't really ever put much thought into this, besides laughing at what Chris Rock said. It's the shortest, coldest month of the year. To be clear, I'm laughing with him, not at him.

It really does seem like a backhanded reverse racist month though.

Plus it ties in with racial pride, an idea that I am flat out against. Nobody is special just because they happen to be born black, or white, or Mexican, or whatever race. Taking pride in what all the dead mother fuckers of previous generations is nothing but stealing their thunder, and pretending like you went through the hardships and struggles of those before you.

This is pretty much my view. We could give people in general honorable mentions for their accomplishments, and review how far we've come as a species. Good stuff.

If you think that's how whites get treated, you suffer from a severe case of the stupid. Whites don't give other whites special treatment, not like almost every single other race gives their own kind special treatment. Why? Because whites are the majority, that's why, there's so many white people that we don't even think about it or their skin color, we don't group them in as "the same as us" because they could be entirely different or from Europe or another and it totally destroys any sense of commonality. So if you dress like a thug, look like a criminal or look poor, regardless of race, that's the only per-conceived notion people are going to get.

Now speaking of special treatment, blacks are REALLY bad at that, the whole "my brotha" attitude that is its a "whites vs. blacks" world means that any black person in a position of power with that attitude will give any job position or opening to the next available black guy. Mexicans actually don't do this, though we do group up and speak Spanish, we actually don't like illegals or want to give them anything, especially a job because of the bad rep they bring to us as a whole. Asians are really really bad at kind of excluding people and becoming their own clique, seriously, if you've ever gone to a school with a sizable Asian population or have more than a few at work, you will notice how they all hang around together and speak to each other in their own language (if they hail from the same country, of course).

So yeah, minorities are the ones with the tendency to discriminate, actually. Any amount of real world experience and being around a lot of minorities will make this rather evident.

Already a minority in some parts of the world. Hell, even some parts of the US. Go to Miami, all cubans. Where I live it's all Puerto Ricans. There was legitimately at most a dozen white kids at my middle school. My high school was over 70% Hispanic with a substantial amount unable to speak english.
