I am part of a very small and very talented team of game developers working on a game that will be released on the Google Play (Android) and the iTunes App Store (iOS).

This is a PAID job. We are privately funded. You will be compensated upon delivering the audio tracks. You will only be compensated for the music that is going to be used in the game.

We're looking towards a late-spring release so we'd probably need all the music tracks completed by the end of March.

Music tracks will be about 1-2 minutes. You will be compensated per each music track used in the game. There will be about 15 music tracks give or take a few more.

We're also anticipating to port our game to steam sometime in the near future.

We did consider taking from many different musicians here on the website, but it came to our attention that the continuity of the music overall, and the flow of the different styles just didn't work out. Perhaps a composer capable of doing many different styles WELL would be the best.

Most of the users that we have stumbled on have some great orchestral music or great electronic music, etc... but none seem to be "all-around" or proficient across the board consistently in many styles.

We're looking for someone who can do all of the following really well:

Orchestral Soundtrack --- Something from modern orchestra scores these days
Orchestral Hybrid --- Mixing Orchestra with Electronic and Rock elements
Rock --- Hardrock/Metal
Electronica - DnB, Dubstep, House
Jazz --- We need at least one live instrument. We'd prefer this to be really authentic. No mock-up or fake saxophones or trumpets please.
Classical --- We're talking about music from actual classical musical periods. Not really full-on orchestral, maybe a quartet or something?
Quirky/Fun/Casual --- Something you'd hear in a casual game like Candy Crush.

So why do we want multiple styles?

In our game, (which we can give more details about later) there are several "main" characters who have their own unique styles artwise and music-wise as well. Also, in the game you will be collecting music "pick-ups" that will be varied musical styles.

Classical has a certain "power" that differers from the Rock "power," for example.

If you are interested, please post one or two of each of the styles we have specified we needed.
You can post in this thread or PM us.

We do understand not many out there proficient in many styles so if you see this and know someone who could help us out, please let them know about us!

I don't know how often people come on here requesting for musicians, so I hope this is okay and not against any sort of forum rules.

Thanks guys looking forward to hearing some awesome music!

Sounds interesting! But I have to ask, what kind of game uses ALL of these genres? I'm not trying to say your game is wrong for doing so, I've never actually seen a game using near as many genres as you listed. It's definitely unique and you don't see it very often! So I hope that works out for you guys.

Also why not hire a bunch of different musicians? Most games do this as an advantage because everybody has a different style and it will bring a lot more variety to the table! Just an idea though.

Anyways, I have some orchestral works, and some electronic stuff. I can do just about every genre on here too, but there are plenty of musicians on here that are better suited. But I am most comfortable with orchestral.

Off the top of my head, here are some musicians who will fit your genres:

camoshark for jazz and live playing
ZipZipper and steampianist for quirky music.
geoplex for DnB
step for orchestral hybrid
samulis for anything orchestral or classical

And here is some of my music

Okay I will be looking at some of those profiles and yours as well.

We have discussed it over many meetings that using different artists really had a negative impact on the game's aesthetic music-wise.

Is it a bit of a stretch though to find a someone who can make some awesome orchestral hybrids tracks, lash out a great jazz tune that sounds very convincing and make some rockin' tracks as well?

Maybe if people collaborate, but we'd like to find our ideal candidate as described in our first post if we could.

There are a lot of musicians here that are talented in multiple genres. I, myself, write a wide range of genres, usually just whatever suits my fancy at the time, but even I'm missing a couple things from your list. I can do metal, rock, orchestral, orchestral metal/rock, trance, DnB, etc. etc.

... But I've never tried Jazz before, and I struggle with stuff like Dubstep (I don't have anything in that vein on my profile, I have a short complextro section in my most recent song though).

I understand the concern of losing a bit of consistency using multiple artists, but given how wide of a range you are looking for, especially if you're looking for people with their own live instruments for the acoustic genres (I.E. You said you want people to not use VST saxophones for instance), I think you're going to have a very hard time finding a single person that is capable of all that.

Good luck finding someone, but I think you'll be looking a long, long time if you don't compromise and split up the work a little bit between different musicians.

Thanks, it's good to know that you guys understand where we are coming from. Really, this is mostly coming from people who have invested in our game.

We'll try to stick around here for a bit to see if anything comes up, I'm sure we'll find something. If not we might ask for people to collaborate with each other.

Also, we're considering anyone and everyone! Please don't be shy guys, we're really interested in listening to your music!

What you need is 2 people who are able to collaborate. A sound team. And they both need to be competent in their genres as well as mixing/mastering to ensure the soundtrack flows.
You see, asking several musicians to take part doesn't only mean you're breaking continuity in terms of composition style but also in the quality and kinds of sounds used by said musicians. Bringing two people onto the team who will work together will give you a much more coherent whole.

So... You need 2 people with diverse genres and hopefully are more than willing to collab on the songs that require their genres to cross over.

Funny thing is I used to do literally all those genres with a friend of mine (he'd cover electronica genres and jazz, I'd cover rock/metal, blues and retro electronica and we'd both do classical). I don't know if we'd both have time to work on it but there's a slim chance. Want me to find out? Also PM me with how much you expect to pay per track, please, or at least your starting offer and budget for music.

It is a bit of a stretch. From the point of view of the composer, jazz and orchestral music are vastly different. In some regards they feel like polar opposites of each other. Jazz usually favors a "less is more" sort of approach, where as few as three instrumentalists are capable of bringing out more harmonic and melodic variance than most orchestral works, avoiding repeating the same note over multiple instruments and instead playing ones that contrast with the rest and add a lot of color to make the minimal (not always, but usually) makeup sound rich without the heaviness of more classic compositions. Rich, but with a lot of space. Orchestral works are basically the opposite. They are often harmonically and melodically simpler (yeah, I know, it's a generalization), but in exchange for that you get to have a challenge of grouping a huge amount of instruments to acquire the timbre that fits what you're trying to do, and then to blend each other with perfect balance. It's a completely different challenge. I don't know if all that makes any sense to you, but the bottom line is: jazz music is difficult, orchestral music is difficult, and both require entirely different approaches.

If you don't manage to find a composer that can deal with all you're looking for well, you might want to consider working with multiple artists, but choosing one person to act as their director/producer. Essentially, they'd make sure everything is consistent. The director would also likely ask the other artists to submit their work raw and master it by himself, eliminating inconsistencies that would otherwise arise for technical (audio engineering) issues.

Now, to prepare my application...

I mean...also take into account that workload and the deadline you set. I think that's a lot for one person in a small amount of time, unless such a versatile composer did not have any other projects going on.

but what do I know about the real world!!!!

Thanks for the opportunity!

This sounds like a well organized project that I'd love to be a part of. I have a ton of experience working professionally on games and media, especially mobile games and apps.

To be honest, that time-frame you've posted is actually pretty great, the only thing I'd be worried about is hiring people for a recording studio session for a jazz tune, but other than that I think it's enough time for the music you've requested. On average it takes me about 6-10 hours to complete a music project.

I'm pretty all-around in all of those styles you mentioned, and can probably dish up anything else you'd need.

Here are some samples you've requested. I've made it a bit easier by narrowing down some tracks by the styles you asked for.

There's also many more tracks in various styles on my website here:

Sorry about that last post... Looks like some of the links didn't work or linked to other people's music for some very weird reason...

I was actually copy+pasting links from my profile and writing this post in a seperate document.
Some of the links weren't consistent so I had to edit them.
Some of the links ended with /preview/audio/0000000 so I just fixed them to be /audio/listen/0000000

I guess those numbers are different from the preview and whatnot?

Looks like some of my original tracks didn't get posted right and/or ended up belonging to another artist for some reason. I did manage to provide more than enough samples of each genre. It's alright that some of my stuff didn't fully make it on there, just make sure you take note of the artist name on the music players.

Thanks, and sorry again about that.

Good afternoon everyone!

Looks like we've gotten many PMs this morning and overnight!

Everything posted in here looks great!

---deadfishes:
It is understandable, with all those links and examples posted it could easily get messed up in the BBS or HTML code here. It happens, but I do want to say that you seem to have been one of probably two other music composers to provide us with samples of pretty much everything we need.

We would like to see everyone post one or more samples in each of the styles we requested in the original post.
The more, the better.

ALSO: Someone asked about working with sound design. We are working on SFX ourselves but we might still consider someone working on SFX with us as well. So I guess we are now open to that possibility. You can PM us for that.

So something just came up. We actually would PREFERit if people were to post their samples in the thread rather than PM or e-mail. We are sharing this public thread with our investors and other team members. It's easier for us to just send them the link of this topic than for us to copy and paste everything in this thread and everything from the PM's.

Thanks guys, we're putting our development on hold for the next couple of days to focus on making sure we find the right person to provide music for us.

What I can offer you is beyond just writing music for you. I'm experienced in leading projects with people from all around the world and collaborating with others in order to pull a project together. The genres I can't cover I can get done anyway as I have working relationships with the people necessary to do it. In fact, either I would choose the person or I'd let you, but I would organise it for you.

As an example, if you prefer, for the classical I have contacts who specialise in authentic classical composition and arrangement. I'd hire one to write something and then produce it myself. This way you'd have a consistent soundtrack and it would be authentic and to a high standard. I'd also hire people to record parts for a jazz piece and to improvise around a backing and idea (since jazz is great for that!).
The terms would have to be discussed in more detail, but that is what I can offer - music and music management for the project.

Here are examples of my work that you requested be put here in the forum. As for the Jazz issue, I'm afraid I can't promise you a recorded live performance of my own composition in the time given. I just don't have the money or connections for that.

It sounds like your best bet to just choose the composers most fitting to the styles listed and have them work on that to get the best quality out of that genre. I know you want to avoid using too many composers but you could compromise with multiple diverse-genre composers.

Just my thoughts but now here are some examples of my work;

Orchestral (modern scores):

Orchestral Hybrid:

Rock/metal:

Electronica:

Jazz:

Classical:
I've never really done classical solo. It's always been mixed with something else as you may have seen but that's not to say I can't pull it off. Here's something pretty bare anyhow.

I agree with Dutton and others who have said it. Your best bet is to pick several people to cover all the genres and then choose one person to bring it all together (mix etc).

Good afternoon!

We're coming close to a decision for whom will work with our team. We will still be looking at potential candidates for the next few days and maybe part of this weekend.

Many of you have been asking about our rates. We're paying for each music track 1-2 minutes each, and we're looking at 12-15 tracks total. If you'd like more information about our exact compensation rate please PM us, we do not want to disclose that information publicly at this time on the forum.

We really would like for everyone to post their examples of EACH of the styles we mentioned here in this thread.

We have only considered those who have shown authentic and quality examples in each style.

Looking forward to hearing more great work from the NG Audio Portal community.

not trying to be a bother, didnt want to double post on the forum. I've actually got a lot of small tracks that i made for a game that never really took off! Here's a couple, you guys can have any you so chose. I can also change the songs however you like, they are simple mixes anyway! I'm great when it comes to making 2 minute tracks but not so much finished ones lol, but i think you guys could use the quality of some of my tracks, with your expert designing, could turn into an epic soundtrack

but believe me, I'll write any kind of genre really, might need a bit of help with some jazz tho

Thank you all for your interest! We have come to a decision to which few will be interviewed for the position of music composer on our team!

We are following up with scheduling short interviews with some of our top picks.

We will be messaging those whom we'd like to have a short interview with. Look out for a message from us with our Skype username and a link to download a PDFs of our contract and job description.

This is a contracted position, and as such, you’ll be responsible for handling any tax and/or government
requirements needed by the country in which you reside. You will be considered an Independent
Contractor to our company and will be responsible for providing your own equipment and ergonomic home
office set-up.

Our lead designer, producer, and our Art Director/Accountant will be in the conference call with you for the interview.

We have had some very talented composers share there work here with us and we were actually surprised how some of you were extremely versatile and well equipped in many different styles. We will probably come back here again for future projects. You guys are awesome! Thanks again!
