My art thread. 2014-02-03 20:35:27 Reply

Well, seeing that i usually don't get too much feedback and i'm starting to feel anxious about that, i'm just gonna start an art thread and ask you guys what you think. I'll post the artwork that i think represents my skills right now, and later i'll just post every new artwork i make or things like proportion practices and all that kinda stuff.

Just speak your mind, tell me on a scale from 0 to 10 how much you think my art is worth from a tecnical perspective, and tell me why. Also, BE HONEST, i appreaciate that more than anything, even if it's to tell me i completely suck, well, if you have your reasons to tell me that >:(

This is th first one in which i ever added a decent background, should've added two trees and a pretty house with some dog and kids standing around instead.

Her pose is questionable. Eventually it will promote clumsiness as her right leg can not be used to recover. Either just her right leg or both legs need to be planted.

Removing the linework completely is an odd design choice here as the overall piece could have benefited from at least some lines to separate things.
Doo does this well. His brings out the outlines slightly if colors or tone get too similar.

Ehhh.. I kind of like the original sketch more because of the kinetic motion taking place. It's almost like the wind-up for a seriously heavy strike with that staff but unfortunately the facial expression appears so far removed from the "action" the piece falls flat. I've attached my thoughts.

Great stuff you've got here!

This piece looks pretty awesome, though the background does look a bit off:
The characters look like they're being illuminated by spotlights from a professional photo studio, this makes them look really good but it also causes them to not match the background where I guess the light source is a setting sun and maybe some lanterns out of view. It kind of looks like they're standing in front of a green screen.
Your characters should be part of your background, affected by it and themselves casting shadows caused by the same light that illuminates your background.
The desaturated red sky also looks a little bland. It could really help to use references for things like this. Just by googeling 'red sky', you can find nice examples of naturally occurring red skies with clouds.

@Cairos

You are totally right, the pose is the main thing why i kinda hate that drawing, and i really like that pose you did there, but i was trying to get a pose that looked that was in movement. I removed the linework because at that point i was trying to get a "painterly" feel, i was doing it all wrong tho, but my latest two artworks are more close to that style, i think.

@maficmelody

Yeah the face is bad too, she was originally trying to catch something with her left hand, or casting a spell, but at the end i removed it because the reflective light looked wrong

@Nacco

True, my aproach making that piece was a disaster, i did the characters, then added that shading that looks cool, the problem is that while i was doing the shading i had in mind making them look like the models you see in magazines, with the ironic feel of the skulls in their head, and with the background i came up with the idea that they were some kinda demons of death or something, and put them in that background, i didn't realize it didn't fit until it was too late, i didn't want to change it back again.

Thanks for the reviews guys, you are awesome.

This is killer. I love the color scheme and the suits they're wearing. Not to mention that the skulls came out wonderfully. Keep up the awesome work bro, I'm digging your style dog.

Nice, very action-y. I suspect you may have tilted the draw arm a tad too exaggerated to be believable, at least I'm having difficulties with it.

@maficmelody

Yeah, it hurts my arm only trying to do that pose xD But would you say it's something noticeable? Like, "oh look at this artwork, and look her arm is in a weird pose lolz"? If it looks too bad i'll be more careful with over exaggerating in the future, but if not, i 'unno... i think it looks cool like that... It's weird because i'm proud of this artwork, but in a special way, because i've been practicing so much lately, i made a new routine and now i draw like 4 or 5 hours a day, my sudden improvement in anatomy is the prize of my efforts :ยด)
Or maybe i'm just overeacting and the next year i'll be looking at it thinking that i sucked back then xD

@ThePoobaMan

Oh my, thanks man!

I would have to guess that anyone who has drawn a bow (physically drawn a bow) would take immediate notice. Everyone else.. depends on their level of suspension of disbelief when looking at a drawing (picture).

Your drawing style is really impressive to me. This one is definetly my favourite, the third one you posted. It has a resiviour dogs feeling to it. Your colouring and shading is very impressive, what software do you use?

Keep it up I look forward to seeing more.
