You know it would be awesome if the game or video charges in the background while the add plays, i don't know if someone already said this but anyway i'm too lazy to read all the comments XD.

Game or video changes where? In what background? Why? What??

Not changes, chaRges as in loading, and the background part, well while the advertisement plays, the game or movie can start loading, that way if somehow someone gets stuck with some abnormally long add, they could see the add and load their game or video at the same time, that is pretty much the idea, to not make someone wait twice when they can do both things at the same time, like the preloaders that have the adds in them, but in this version you don't see the preloader just the add, and once the add finishes the game/video has charged at least a little bit.

Really i was sure that my idea was quite clear already, specially since is something that most games already have...

Also it is highly probably that all the content is already loading under that add.

So a couple of important notices:

1) As many of you know, we've been having massive problems with Cogent, our bandwidth provider, resulting in Newgrounds running poorly since May of last year. We recently improved our situation with a Content Delivery Network but then Cogent did some sort of re-routing that negated those benefits. That got solved this weekend (for now) but today our Content Delivery Network is having problems, so Newgrounds is running slow as balls. Basically the Internet is falling apart.

2) We've been ramping up a new pre-roll ad system to run in front of movies and games. We are expanding the scope of the ad calls today to get a better idea of what our potential is. As the fill rates on videos improve, we'll be working to disable pre-roll videos that are built into Flash submissions hosted on Newgrounds, so you don't get double hit. Right now you may encounter situations where you get a video ad from Newgrounds followed by a video ad built into the Flash.... Sorry about that. We really want to make this system work because it will result in better quality ads and higher payouts for artists and developers.

This is a bumpy period but we're making hard choices towards a better future for NG, so hope you can tough it out with us!

I should also note that supporters help keep NG going and won't see the new pre-roll ads we are running, in addition to not seeing banners and other ads on the page.

Some positive news, Bcadren is working on a Unity version of the NG API! His code is public and he's interested in help.

Um wassup:) I would like to say its cool, lol ads are an everyday part of the internet experience. Just as long as Newgrounds stays functional is all I care about:) And some of the ads are nice like the RoboCop AD.I have been watching Newgrounds forever but only recently signed up as a registered user.We all go through tough times but this site is awesome, and it has awesome supporters, keep your head up:) Things will get better :)

I don't think video ads are a good idea because they make you wait before you can skip the video and view the content. I think overlay ads would be better. It should be something that doesn't interrupt our enjoyment.

If it's gotta be video ads, maybe there's some way to make the video play only as long as the Flash is preloading, so that you can skip the ad as soon as the Flash is loaded.

I got Flash CS4 in case you need something converted to CS3.

I have a problem, it popped up after this update thing. I can't load anything anymore, it was fine a couple of days ago, but now it's just down. I can't even watch a 30 second short. So yeah, I'm a bit disappointed. And it isn't the internet or my laptop, they're just as fast as ever. Other sites run great. I already tried deleting my browsing history and cookies, but it hasn't changed anything. Any chance of helping me out here?

Crazy how much faster NG runs in Supporter mode! Also nice to see artists' work on the sides instead of ads.

Could the uploader be able to choose what adverts are displayed, or block certain types of adverts playing on the uploaders videos? Something along the lines of that. There are some adverts I wouldn't mind playing prior to my videos, but there's others that I find annoying, and would not want to let that out on others.

I like the overlay idea. I'd hate NG to become the next YouTube. But, sacrifices must be made to keep the site running, I guess.

I have to say, NG is rather fast for me, uploading SWF files, dumping (some what, it can be slow at times) and loading everything else.

Stopped loading anything for me since the last update :-( All I get is a black screen with a "Loading..." word on it, no ads or submissions. IE writes about an error in Swmadplayer.js when loading the ad. Only Firefox works.

im prettymuch having the same problem. it occasionaly happened with just the vids before but now its a full on thing for both the vids and the games. i havent noticed it on the audio player probably because that doesnt have any overlay ads.

as a sidenote yes im using internet explorer and if this continues to be a problem then im afraid newgrounds might have to put up a notice that it isnt IE compatable anymore.

what signature? i see no signature here.

It was actually only today that I noticed any kind of appreciable slowdown, but I am a little used to that, and it didn't affect the videos or anything, just the website itself. As far as the advertisements go, though of course I would prefer an ad-free web-surfing experience, I am willing to accept them. Newgrounds is far, far too awesome a site to stop coming to just for a few inconveniences. I've been watching it grow over the years, and I hope it will be here when I have kids and I can show them a little Internet heritage that seems to be disappearing so much these days. Keep up the good work Tom, you're going a very good thing with this site.

Hey, how long was your power out this week? Between Monday and Wednesday, I lost power 4 times for a total of about 10 hours... can only imagine how much worse it was inland.

I'd say so! I wonder if Tom and Wade made it through okay... though Tom could probably just put his kids on a treadmill with a generator, and be okay. Good thing there wasn't much wind, still plenty of ice stuck to the trees though.

Site's running good and fast on my stolen Verizon FIOS connection... and the major porn sites have also figured out a way around the throttling issue as well.

I'm retarded and couldn't get the API to work my objects for AS2. Too many objects or something.

So is it possible you can streaming ads for games as well as an alternative to the API.

Tom, what browsers are supported? I've got a weird experience, maybe it has something to do with ads, I'm not American, maybe the script fails to pick the ad for me?
I've tried 4 different browsers, results:
IE8 - eternal 'Loading...'
Opera 10.5 - same
Firefox 7.0.1 (antiquated, but operational) - everything works, no preroll ad though
Lunascape 6.8.10 - it has 3 rendering engines, trident and Gecko fail..
Webkit works - but again, without any preroll ads.
Maybe there's something with the script. Never managed to launch those video ads, seems like a loading failure for some reason.

I didn't get my power back until Friday. Also on Wednesday on our way to the car, my son was almost crushed by a giant falling branch that came down without warning... I had to saw it up to clear the driveway before we could get out, the whole time wondering if another branch would land on me while I was sawing. Truly butt-clenching news, sorry to hear the storm was that bad! I hope you had a generator or something, to keep the heat and refrigerator going.
