It's because the Bible apparently says it's wrong, but then again, the only time it's explicitly mentioned is when some guy doesn't bear his brother a rightful heir, but instead spills his seed next to his bed and is struck down for it. He was struck down because he did not give his brother a rightful heir, not because he "spilt his seed". If it doesn't explicitly say it elsewhere, it's fine.

Well, for me, masturbating isn't the problem, it's pornography.
Pornography quickly devolved into a sick indulgence for me, I became a slave to my desire and I didn't really enjoy it. I didn't like viewing women as simply sex objects, wasting my energy and time on instant gratification. It's like an addiction in which you always have access to your drug and it's not generally frowned upon.
The closest to religious influence I've ever gotten was Buddhism, which taught me that self control and moderation leads to happiness and virtue.

Probably not "us" as there isn't much restraining you from masturbating, I'm pretty sure of it. There are groups who oppose it, but that's just how it works. We have different ideologies in this world and individuals and groups will work to promote or even force their views on others.

Controlling birth and sexuality is a way to ensure control over a mass of individuals, but I'm pretty sure you're safe right now, you can fap without them knowing.

I'm a senior in high school, and the word "masturbation" has never so much come up in a sex education seminar.

I wonder if they think we already know, think it's not their responsibility to teach us (since we can't get STDs), or they don't want to "encourage that kind of behavior" or something. To be fair, though, they do mention condoms, so it's not just a bunch of abstinence bullshit.

it is normal, it is a human body function. it is rather harsh to amputate limbs as punishment for masturbation, but that is just how customs dictate for some. i can see how some would label it a sin being that you are wasting your seed, and religion will always play a part in such matters and others.

i myself am not against masturbation, though society as a whole will always have differing views within.
