Kinda...I watch so many tutorials. I have FL Studio project files specifically devoted to certain genres of sound design. Trap, dubstep/dnb, house, electro, etc etc. I mainly use massive, 3xOsc, and nexus for my synths. If anybody wants me to make a certain kind of sound, let me know. I may not be the best tho lol, but I'll try :D

I see! I'm more in-depth with the cinematic/hybrid type sound design, it's extremely hard to find tutorials on YouTube for that kind of subject on Synthesis. :( Make's it very fun though when your experimenting and coming up with the exact same sound you tried to find but couldn't. xD

I spend way more time creating synth patches than real tracks.
Massive/FM8 + jscope are my tools of choice by now.

I had fun making Hans Zimmer's drone, the 'Bwaaa' sound! But I make it a bit different.

something like this (audio demo)

Here is the sample pack (including a standalone NKI file).

Dude, that's awesome! I'd one day love to record some brass to do such sounds in future libraries. I might upload a few sounds I've been working on, only using Synths (well only Zebra 2 and Massive).. I've been on the study on 8Dio's Hybrid Tools 1, Rhythmic Aura and Heavyocity's Aeon (Rhythmic) but like you! "In my own style" :P

This is what I was talking about :) Some of the sounds can take from 2 minutes to create, it's awesome what Zebra2/Massive can do when you're not trying to make some bad ass bass, or pad...

I'm on a study on Percussion sounds only using Synths, it's actually amazing what some synths can do.

A lot of the sounds included in that download are more percussive sounds, but enjoy!

p.s. I still need to find someone who'd join me in releasing something commercially!!!! ;)

i am SO perplexed by the beat that comes in in this song:

That weird motor-esque snare sound! What on Earth is that?

Someone please enlighten me if they can!

Thanks! :)

AudioGuy: If you have Massive you could use color wavetable, and some special enveloppe assigned to the pitch.
Enable the loop/sustain function in the enveloppe to modulate, set it to inf (or 33 sometimes)
Since the loop function has also a morph option, you could add some controlled randomization so the modulated pattern varies slightly.

Teddy: Something like a snare roll? Or a long snare with a gate.

I did not create very much synth patches from the scratch, yet but I got a secret addiction to sample strange instruments. The most intense one was to sample an old belgium footbass from the 19th century and create a round robin multisample library for Kontakt with different velocity layers. I only have the staccatto patch, yet but if I find the time I will try a legato one, too. It sounds a bit like a mix between a very low pitched accordeon and a tuba... The biggest problem I have is that the different notes od the instrument have a very different attack time and if I just cut it at the beginning it does not sound very natural anymore... But you just have to consider this in your composition. I only used it in one track yet. But if someone is interested (it´s the alternating staccatto bass below the tuba in this track; sounds a bit like the steps of a drunken clown):

  • The Sad Clown

If somebody is interested PM me and I can send you some more "naked" samples. Also I´m always interested in hearing some tipps for sampling techniques ;)
Ahhh, maybe that´s also interesting. In this track I sampled one of these pipes you fill with water which sound like a bird when blow them. Of you then work on it with a grain delay which pitches each echo an octave higher you got the bird sounds of complete wood ;)

  • The Well
    The Well by Azhthar

A fantasy background atmosphere. Quite relaxing... And welly of course

It sounds like a combination of a snare and clap.
With a fast delay using just 3 or maybe 4 repetitions and a strong feedback on both (snare and clap), you can get a sound very similar to the one used in that song.

Although learning chinese would take me less time than understanding the code, I remember there are some users of reaktor, synthedit etc here, so i share.

How do I make this synth? If it helps I use FL Studio 11 (if video doesn't start at the time, it's at 7:48):

Do you have Sytrus ?
If you do, there are two presets very similar to the sound you want, not exactly the same, but some small modifications will do the trick. In the Sytrus presets, look for this:
Short synth > Moogish and Synth string > Basic

I hope it's close enough to be useful.

On this old gem the beat break thingy around 0:55

I just want to see or know for educational purposes.

How do? Kick, record scratch, reverbed clap? With some more sounds in the little time to scratch does it's thing while a rising white noise plays? But i'm missing something else i know it.

Basically your questions are your answers. Just experiment and pitch up the drums if they are on a medium tuning. By the way i'm not sure what you meant with the scratching. There's no scratching at that part of the song, at least to my ears. :)

The scratch he's talking about is a turntable scratch, not a literal scratch sound.

@SOnoYa It indeed sounds like a turntable scratch. If you want a similar effect you could try finding a fitting sample and load it in FL Scratcher to achieve that. Otherwise, going mad with any kind of filter on a bar of white noise also could get the job done.

I'd recommend looking through Freesound's archive of free turntable sounds.

Another free alternative is to load up the SGM sound font and use the turntable sfx from the drum program.

Ha. Thank you guys so much. All messages received. I've never realized finding good samples could get so hard. And thanks for the idea LiquidOoze that idea may just help me with more than just this sound.

And sampled turntable spins? Lol, that sounds almost unnatural yet worth a try. You, also have some good ideas.
