I for one am definitely considering entering. I'll be damned if a Newgrounds musician didn't make it to the Final 3.

I don't get what's going on...I want to know what the rules are in layman's terms and why the Hell a bunch of the entries so far are just people's own compositions. I mean, I've seen the latter happen before, but it still confuses me...

Eh, I don't know if I want to do it or not. The prize sounds like a great opportunity, but I'm sure it'd be afterwards a long, uphill battle to work your way up the ranks of HZ's clone army. That's perfectly fine, but I'd rather devote all that time towards trying to freelance my way into the industry.
Although it would be cool to get noticed by HZ, it'd be even cooler to draw his attention through other means than a contest. ;-)

I think this link also worth reading where Hans talks about the contest and entries.
Participating or not, for me this is at least a great opportunity to learn from the stems composed by one of a leading composers of his time.

I would consider, but it's not my time yet... I have other matters I need to tend to, first.

Same here, these are just random entries which have nothing to do with the contest. I think its more of a remixing type of contest. However, someone from other forum probably got it right,
Think of the gig - Hans is composer - you're on staff. He writes a theme director broadly loves and signs off on -
As staff he needs you to take care of a scene - and you have license to go for it. But based on his stems and theme.
So - start with the stems - use them as a kickoff point. Go somewhere awesome original and unique.
Have the stems in there so the judges know it's based on this brief rather than just whatever showcase you've already written and have hanging around.
I think this is the sober interpretation.

There's really no way of knowing whether he actually created those stems himself either :P

Agreed.
But there is absolutely NO way of claiming whether he actually NOT created those stems either :)
Well, there is a conversation going on on another forum for those who are interested in it. I cannot post the link because only members can see the post. Hans himself posted in there. Its frustrating that there's a lot of random tracks uploaded by people who have no idea that reading rules is a good thing!

Reading the rules put my english skills to test XD
I feel like i have to sell my soul to enter the contest.
Fortunately Eu is excluded for the most part.
Stems here, always interesting to deconstruct a track.

So all you have to do is fruityslice everything, throw them back in random order and add a vocaloid? :D

Agreed. Probably just covering their backs. For anyone who wants to know what it reads, see here:
Other People and Other Materials
2.10 You warrant and represent that any Composition you supply is your original creation, shall not have
been exploited previously in any manner or medium, shall not be in the public domain, shall not contain
any uncleared samples or interpolations, and shall not infringe upon or violate the rights of any person
or entity, and that you shall be solely responsible for and shall pay all costs relating whatsoever to the
creation of any such Composition. You further warrant and represent that you have obtained all
necessary rights with respect to creating and producing any Composition, and that, except in connection
with the Stem Files provided by Bleeding Fingers for the purpose of this Competition, you shall be solely
responsible for obtaining any and all required licenses, permissions and consents from third parties,
including any performers, in connection with the creation and supply of any Composition.
Its an interesting competition. Maybe if it was for a prize other than a job in LA.

It's not really the type of competition that would interest me much, but why the hell is Québec specifically excluded from this contest?

I'm probably going to do a submission, but I do have some concerns. The main one being how much of Bleeding Fingers is really Hans? Is it more like Remote Control 2.0? Or is it more like Sony's pet needs employees so they got Hans to put his name on it to attract more attention? I have a sneaking suspicion of the latter.
I wouldn't mind being a Hans Zimmer minion, several of his proteges now have great independent careers. But a Sony slave? Thanks but no thanks.

Hm - i dont have a problem with working for someone else, BUT its important for me to evolve and improve. And if you have just to compose one ethnic drum / hybrid orchestra track after another ... dont know. I am sure to work with a professional like him is a very helpful and interesting experience, but i have my doubts i would be able to find what i really wanted. I mean - how can you find your own style this way? (and thats what i think will count if you will work as an independent artist after the employment). I am also sure that the times of hybrid and large drum patterns wont last forever. Meanwhile most of the hollywood movies soundtracks sound deflating similar. Its already very hard to find people who compose something new and unique, but i think this is where the trend goes in the next years...

Dang, I know right? I'm not from Quebec, but that is the only province of Canada I ever go to, since I have family there.
Maybe there are some personal reasons HZ had to exclude it. But yeah.. wtf?
Also it seems pretty unclear if we have to use all the stems or at least just one?

Hans himself doesn't feel it fair.
There are some countries that have laws that won't let us do it, legally... I think it's really unfair :(
...And my track is just to get the ball rolling...Write whatever YOU want to write!
-Hz
But those who wants to participate I suggest using some (or all) of the stems with the inclusion of your own composition in between. In this way it will retain its originality along with your own touch.

Anybody agree with that statement?
I would think most people would only want to hear that Hans Zimmer kind of sound.

About.com says the laws in Quebec regarding contests are to strict for it to be worth running a contest there. Poor Quebec :(
