Just a while ago I was in an argument with my friend over how I never grew up and she did. And we were good friends too we shared the same kind of childish humor until recently she claims she grew up and yadda yadda.
Anyway my point is I've noticed there's a trend going on where some of my friends who do grow up end up changing themselves end up acting like assholes too good for everyone else now that they're grown up. So that said is this what happens when people mature or grow up? That they are a new person and change into a bunch of assholes who always act like their panties are in a bunch?
I mean I do agree you should act mature when the time comes and believe it or not I can be mature when needed but all the time? Sounds like boring shit to me.

To a degree, yes. I mean, there are times in which maturity is a requirement, sure. But just because one matures, that doesn't mean they shouldn't still be able to have fun. I'd say there's a fine line between being mature, and just being an asshole.
I'd like to think I'm a fairly mature person. I'm almost 19, getting into the real world, and I understand the mechanics behind proper social interaction in the real world. However, that doesn't mean I can't still get weird around all of my friends. I suppose a lot of it has to do with who one associates with. I know my particular group of friends are very open minded (how many people do you know who can shower with a group of dudes and not be considered gay?), and we have a really strange sense of humor, which could be construed by many as immature. But we don't care, because we know that we are, in fact, mature people. We just don't conform to societies ideals about what is necessarily a "proper" way to conduct oneself.
So to answer your question, no, maturity is not overrated. Quite the opposite, if anything. However, being "mature" isn't an excuse for becoming a complete prude. There is a time and place for everything. I may strip down naked and run around a room shouting nonsense around my friends, because that would be a time and place to do so. Around most of, "polite society." Notsomuch... Just a matter of finding a balance between the two and never losing who you are.

What sucks is fake maturity.
Like people who only play games like Call of Duty, and Madden, cause they think colorful games like Mario are "gay".

I really don't think choice in video games is necessarily the best judge of maturity, one way or the other.

That doesn't sound like being mature at all.
I think it's like what others have said, there's a time and place to be mature and to be goofy. You're expected to be mature when it comes to certain things - going to the bank, filing taxes, grown-up stuff. But trying to proclaim superiority in social situations by acting "mature" implies the opposite. There's a correlation between maturity and competence, not a causation as some may assume.

This, in a nutshell. Most people who are too focused on "being mature" in fact are fake mature and are overly concerned with image. These are fake people and you should probably find new friends.

What I've noticed with people like that is that they like being 'mature' assholes to people who they haven't talked to in forever or don't know. But those people tend to not even know who they really are yet and just try to act like they're mature. This is just from my experience.

Every since i cut my braids off, everyone that knew me prior to that thinks I look more mature which is a good thing i guess; but i was unaware that having braids made me appear immature

What is maturity at the end of the day? People need to get this right.
If it means being a complete deadpan sick-burning, sarcastic prig who doesn't take to general humour and can't even try to get along with people, then count me out.
If it means learning to accept people for who they are, learning to laugh at their jokes, learning to give and take, trying to make friends, and trying to make the most out of a moment in our lives -- THAT is maturity, and I ain't giving up on that.
People have never understood how in seemingly stark times, I've been able to stay cheerful -- but that's the whole point. Being mature is not about hiding in a corner thinking that everyone's out to get you, asserting yourself over every single person all the time. Being mature is having the joy of a child and the insight of a wise man. So are all of us truly mature? Maybe not, but we're working at it. (At least, those of us who want to.)
