It's probably true but I take those kind of facts with a grain of salt.

What they never include with those kinds of facts is the phrase "amongst those polled," or something similar, let alone an accurate portrayal of the demographic(s) involved.
Fact: Most facts are inaccurate, ESPECIALLY ones which state something about X percentage of people.

They have sources
Both of those sources they have listed don't even have the survey of people answering if the sun is a star or not. They have a survey on both of those source sites that ask people what the sun revolves around, not if the sun is a star or not. I'm calling bullshit on this one. Case closed.

I looked at everyone in my family and according to my findings one hundred percent of humans have blue eyes.

i did a poll of everyone in my room right now and found that 100% of people have decided that they're not going to bother to finish this joke because they can't think of a good punchline.

I did a poll of everyone on the BBS and I have concluded conclusively that my conclusion is that I can't be bothered to conclude a thing!

Something along those lines came up the other day for me and when I mentioned something about other star's solar systems, he just looked at me dumbfounded. I think he previously thought that our solar system was pretty fucking big.

It's a known fact that 95% of statistics are made up on the spot.
Especially the ones with percentages.

Assuming it is, name one difference it will make in your life besides not being able to chat about astronomy with people.

While ignorance is nothing to be proud of, I believe that sometimes we give too much credit to what we consider to be "common sense". This example being one in which most of you seem appalled by the idea that a lot of people don't know much about astronomy.
The question is... why do we expect them to?
