Free Piano Vst 2014-01-02 23:50:49

Guys, I've been held up on my music for months now and part of the reason is because I can't get a realistic piano sound. Honestly, out of all my options, MIDI piano sounds the best (this is out of MIDI, FL9 pianos and my keyboards), so you must realize how dire the situation is.

I've been trying to find a good sounding and free piano VST, but the best sounding one I could find wasn't compatible with FL Studio apparently.

Check to see if your synth vsts have any piano presets. From there if you know what you want you should be able to dial in what sound you want to hear.

As good as this instrument seems to be, I'm having trouble getting the damn thing to actually work.

Firstly the 64 bit version failed to load, so tried the 32bit with a bit more success, but it's not producing any sound whatsoever.

Anyone else had any issues getting it to work?

Continuous Velocity Piano by Tascam
Info at KVR
Info and DOWNLOAD on VST4Free
DOWNLOAD from Tascam website
When you try to install, the program announce you that needs Service Pack2 to run and abort install (even if you have only SP2 installed), so here's a fix :FIX explanation page

1. Download and install the Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit 5.0 (from the Microsoft website)
2. Start->Programs->Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit 5.0->Compatibility Administrato
3. Click the "Fix" button at the top (if it is greyed out you may need to make a new custom database first and select it.
4. A create new application fix wizard will appear.
5. Wizard - Program Information screen: Name of application and name of vendor don't matter too much, put anything there. For program file location, browse to the GVI setup program on the CD-ROM. Click Next.
6. Wizard - Compatibility Modes screen: By default "Microsoft Windows 95" will be selected. Change this to "None" and click "Next"
7. Wizard - Compatibility Fixes screen: Scroll down and check the check-box next to "WinXPSP2VersionLie". Click the "Test Run" button (DO NOT CLICK NEXT).
8. Test run window: Ensure the path to the program is correct (should be something like e:\setup.exe). Command line can be blank. Click the OK button.
9. The GVI installer will now launch and proceed quite happily thinking it is running in XP SP2.
10. After the install is done You can close the "Create New Application Fix" wizard and the Compatibility Administrator tool without saving changes.

I'm having a similar issue. Can't get it to work in either Sonar or Finale. Too bad -- it sounds pretty good. (And for free, I would upgrade that adjective to "fantastic").

You win the thread, pretty much. This shit works for FL9 and it's better than what I had which is all I wanted. Thanks!

@sorohanro

I tried 4Front before and it wouldn't work. :\

Well, beside the NG piano, which I think is Kontakt based (and strangely got past my radar, thanks Elitistinen for the link), there is this really awesome one:
http://sonimusicae.free.fr/matshelgesson-maestro-en.html

"Attention : the archive weighs 337 MB ! A big one ! Use a download manager that can stop and restart a download"
Works very well with Linux Sampler (which has a Windows version too).
UVI Workstation has in it's demo library (UVI Demo Soundpack) a cool nice jazz piano too, so, there are quite many solutions, and if everything still lacks that "je ne sais quoi", then there are the MDA Piano, the General, Jazz Baby, Prova and Le Piano from Safwanmatni or DSK AkoustiK KeyZ.
Now that's a bunch of pianos.

Intimate Piano with two mic positions.

Larger version is to be released soon. Keep an eye! :)

Here is a VERY rough sketch, a test of Intimate piano. 1st part is close and decca mics mixed, while the rest is with added reverb with some strings to show how it sits in a mix. Of course you can do better job than this, its just an example. I like the result!

Not sure if you're still having issues with it, but I ran into the same problem.
After putting the full unzipped folder into the vst folder instead of the .dll alone it worked like a charm though.

So basically it worked when you didn't unzip it?

I'm so trying that when I get a chance, cheers for the info

Adding to the threat, one of the best free things I've seen is Yannleo Accentor X1 GP-1. I think the original site that hosted it is gone, by you should have no problem googling the thing. It's pretty damn cool, if maybe lacking in expression a little.

Response to Free Piano Vst 2014-01-30 19:15:56

Yup me too! I tried it before as well I had the same problems. Hope I can get it running!

Response to Free Piano Vst 2014-01-30 19:42:18

Nice! Got it to work.

I tried it out at base form. I actually like FL Keys with Reverb better so far. After i'm done with this song that i'm making, i'll try tweaking it.

No, I did unzipped it, but instead of taking the file out of the folder after it was unzipped I just put the entire piano one folder into my vst folder.

Hope it helps. :)

From what I read, the special edition thing is supposed to add a knob or two, if that's what you mean. And there's a bunch of presets too, if you missed that.

Anyway, adding to the hype: this is good.

Response to Free Piano Vst 2014-01-31 10:14:57

Actually no, I did something wrong with the download. It's good now....

I swear though, I cannot get the same sound that is shown in that video.

Ok with a decent amount of experience using this VST tell me if it's good? I'm starting to think that video is a straight up hoax. I can't get the VST to sound anywhere close to that good.

That's supposed to start with "Ok, can anyone"
