I have noticed decent sized images take awhile to display on the website and wonder if it is better to upload images 800 x 800 pixels or less so it can be viewed quickly. I usually upload around 2-4 megapixel size images.

Personally I usually have one version resized for the web and one that I keep to myself, or use when a high-resolution version is needed. I don't draw much detailed art though so the pictures don't need to be that big, I'd say it depends on what you're working with. As for how big, I try to keep them around 1024x768px, which is still a pretty standard screen resolution on stationary devices... not optimized for mobile though, but as I see it anything visual is meant to be seen on a bigger screen.
I like to use 640x360. It loads really fast. I'm not sure about 800x800 but it will probably load quick.

Well the smaller it gets, the faster. :) The fewer gradients an image has also plays in on loading time, so with solid image colors for backgrounds, etc (like you have on at least a few works) it's bound to load like light.
Thanks for your responses! I'm having an easier time now.
