So Bill and Melinda Gates are paying 11 research teams to invent the next generation of condoms, after selecting from millions of proposals worldwide. This one is the most audacious, claiming to have reduced condom thickness from 0.07mm to less than 0.04mm.

As you may already know, graphene is one of the world's thinnest, strongest, and most flexible materials. Almost as thin as nothing at all.

They mentioned that graphene is an elastic material, but how elastic? And it may have good tensile strength or something, but what about shear strength or puncture resistance? I balk at the thought that graphene would even be close to a suitable material.

The ratio of people who carry HIV to people who don't is relatively small. Do you know more than one or maybe two people who have it? I've never once met anyone who had it, and I trust people enough to be honest about it.

Considering how small the odds are, it's not a big enough risk for me.

Well, I mentioned HIV because obviously this is why Bill Gates is investing. But yeah, much more of a third world disease. Still, half a million diagnoses of syphilis, gonorrhoea and chlamydia last year in my small country not to mention risk of pregnancy and warts/ crabs etc.
