3.80 / 5.00 4,200 ViewsHey, I bought Beyerdynamic DT770 today for sound design and editing for film
but after listening to the them I can't help but wonder have I made the right choice.
The bass sounds enhanced even though they said it wasn't. Opinions?
Thank you,

Most closed back headphones have a bit of a boost in the lower region. The 770s have a relatively flat response. They are still by-in-large my favorite headphones in and around the 200 dollar pricepoint though. No headphones are perfect. Consider this chart when using them for mixing/mastering.

Those are really nice studio headphones, but I think for sound design, mixing and mastering and all that stuff, the DT990 would have been better. They are open, but the sound is true with a flat frequency response. They wont help you much for recording, cause they are open, but for mixing in a quiet space, they are perfect.
If you needed closed headphones with isolation, the DT770 are perfect.
When i'm in the bus and watch that most people listen to music on shitty telephone speakers or put 600 ohms cans on a 30ohms output, i'm tempted to think that as long as it sounds "good" on those devices, your headphones are doing their job.
There is no perfect gear, but once you're used to the specificity of your headphones you can compensate so that it will sound similar on every equipement.
For example, I have HD 25-II, i love them, except the higher frequency and the very closed stereo field. So when i use my speakers, i only use them to widen the stereo field because i know they are exaggerating bass.
Having a reference track helps too.
Of course headphones and speakers will always sound different but... not so much if you do your job right hehe.
On the graph i guess that the hole in 80hz range could give false impression that kick is to quiet?
Hey, thanks for your feedback guys, and thanks for the chart!
InYourDreams, the ones I have are closed and on the first few listens it was pretty claustrophobic,
now I'm getting used to it.
