This.
I used to love Nostalgia Critic (and admittedly I still watch the reviews) but I've gotten so fucking tired of all the long, drawn out, poorly-acted and, worst of all, not funny skits that have started to interrupt the reviews. I think he has decent acting talent (at least decent enough to appear natural on camera) but fucking none of his friends have that.

Those are less his friends and more people who moved to Chicago to be on demo reel then when that folded they needed jobs. They all seem like nice people but you're right. He review of 8 crazy nights (which I disagreed with) was great because it had them shoehorned in to a bare minimum.

I guess that's true, and yes, I think they're nice people, but 9 times out of 10 it just seems horribly forced.

Even when they were in it, though, it was irritating and didn't seem warranted.

I'm not saying the Youtube changes are in any way good, but Joe made the decision to make his living off of a third party website that doesn't need to pay anybody anything for making content.

Im noticing alot of people in this thread don't seem to know what this actually means. It's not a matter of bias, it doesn't matter if you like the guy or not, its that his video was taken down not by the publisher but by a bot. Joe's videos are supported by the devs, Youtube is doing this on its own. In fact normal people that have no relevance can content ID claim any bit of content.Youtube is acting alone...I want to collaborate on this thread and give people a more informed approach, if you'd let me.

I guess that all the gaming community will do is just move to Twitch.tv or something like that. And they'll do the reviews there. Or something.

I'm actually waiting on that first one to happen....YouTube will take an enormously huge hit when that happens since he has more subscribers than anyone else.
which makes ZERO sense to me since I find nothing special about his videos.

Fuuuuuuck that. Machinima has Mortal Kombat Legacy, which is awesome. Well, season one was. I'm hoping season 3 is better than 2. And I hope Kano and Jax come back after having their eye and arms done.

Yep.
This is the reality of this internet business. You are not protected from anything. You are constantly at the mercy of the websites that promote your content.
They will write policies on their website that they won't stick to the second a lawyer knocks at their door. They're not making the bulk of their money from any small demographic that matters so they frankly do not give a fuck as the revenue "loss" from game reviewers is probably greatly offset by the legal costs they avoid fighting with all these companies.
The power is in the hands of the consumer. If you learn about this, boycott those game companies. Of course all of you are weak little bitches who's never have the balls to deprive yourselves of the very highest level of comfort so you'll bitch and moan all day long but in the end, you'll still buy the new movie / console / game and forget about it.

I've seen a bunch of people bitching about youtube ON YOUTUBE, and saying how bad the new comment system/copyright claims are ON YOUTUBE.
People should follow CGR's footsteps and LEAVE youtube classily since it's obviously fucking falling apart. And it's not that big of a concern of these people losing all their viewers if they leave because a lot of these people are big enough that they could move and bring their viewer base with them.
To be honest, all these people should've had a plan ready since something like this happening seemed to me at least inevitable. If I was one of these youtube people, looking at the way youtube has been heading recently, I would've had a plan to leave or jumped ship way before now. This is really not surprising.

The angry man act is all well and good but there's no way to apply it to something as petty as videogames or movies and not look like a fuckwit.

I'm more concerned about the message they are sending about fair use; I'd rather not create content for a website that doesn't allow people to put forth criticism.

I hardly see YouTube fading into obscurity anytime soon, they may have sold the fuck out but that certainly doesn't mean it'll still have original content like it did in it's "hay day" if you dare even call it that.

There have been cases before I've followed that have pushed this issue with Youtube; all of them were dismissed before trial because the guy arguing it wasn't a lawyer, couldn't afford one, and had a very poor understanding of the law. I think someone with sufficient resources could make an argument that would force Youtube to adhere by fair use, being a private company they have no legal obligation to honor it since it is their servers hosting things. Although I'm not entirely in favor of the courts litigating a company and how it operates, bottom line is Youtube sucks, but I think it's too culturally relevant to boycott, you've got me there Pox.

I've said it before in another youtube thread, and I'll say it again here.
If you don't agree with youtube's policies, then don't upload videos to youtube. Don't give them money. Don't let them profit off your work.
Upload your videos to any competing site or start your own website and host them.
Personally I wouldn't even bother making a youtube account, I would recommend that people upload their videos elsewhere, and I use workarounds for those occasional youtube videos which "require" a login.
The same is true of any website though. If you disagree with how it's run, then don't upload your content there. Don't even register there. If you do upload your content you are implicitly supporting it.
