Directed by Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, Mr & Mrs Smith)
Tom Cruise. Emily Blunt. Bill Paxton. Some people I don't know.
Based on All You Need Is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka.
Lt. Col. Bill Cage (Tom Cruise) and Special Forces soldier Rita Vrataski (Emily Blunt) team up to fight a hostile alien race known as Mimics, with Cage continually returning to a fatal battle through a time loop. The epic action of Edge of Tomorrow unfolds in a near future in which an alien race has hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault, unbeatable by any military unit in the world.
In the beginning of the story, Cage (Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously dropped into what amounts to a suicide mission. Killed within minutes, Cage now finds himself inexplicably thrown into a time loop forcing him to live out the same brutal combat over and over, fighting and dying again and again.
But with each battle, Cage becomes able to engage the adversaries with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Blunt). And, as Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated encounter gets them one step closer to defeating the enemy.
I'm pretty pumped to see exoskeletons get this much screen time. The lead role was originally cast for Brad Pitt, but he had too much work. I'm not a Cruise fan, but I can watch him on screen.
Whaddya think? Starship Trooping Elysium Halo in Oblivion on Groundhog Day? Cool? Lame? Cruisin' mediocrity where a Pitt would do?

I'll watch anything with time loops.
There's a Xena time loop episode, it's so awesome.
You can't write a bad time loop story.

Haven't seen those movies? They're invading another planet like Starship Troopers, using exoskeletons like Elysium, it's kind of like the Halo cut scenes, Oblivion was Cruise's last SciFi with similar motifs, and it takes place in a time loop like Groundhog Drag.

I've only seen Groundhog Day, never even knew there were other time loops like this.

Me? Of course not. Tom Cruise and Emily Blunts can, though.

Although the action looks kinda cool, the reliving concept doesn't really grab me. I was happy enough with Source Code.

Looks promising, actually.
Even though the soundtrack sounds like it was sang by the computer from Portal.

That's pretty much the only episode I can remember anymore. I also seem to recall Joxer getting killed on one of those repeated days.

There's a Stargate SG-1 episode that's a time loop, a Star Trek: TNG and a Xena: Warrior Princess.
I don't know if there's others. Probably.
Majora's Mask is a time loop game :p But fuck that.

It certainly taps into Tom Cruis' ability to look nervous. I don't see good things in this film besides its special effects.
