3.93 / 5.00 4,634 ViewsNine years ago today, Dimebag Darrell was shot to death while performing at a Damageplan show.
If I had to pick my favorite band and guitar player of all time, it would have to be Pantera and Dimebag hands down.
It's hard to pick a favorite song, but I think Cemetary Gates is one of the best.
Any Pantera / Damageplan / Dimebag fans here, what's your favorite song / video?
I've never checked out Damageplan and I do feel ashamed of that but Pantera I can never go wrong with the albums Cowboys from Hell and Vulgar Display of Power. Can never have enough of listening to Cowboys from Hell or Walk.
It's been 9 years. Wow. I also haven't listened to Damageplan but Pantera certainly. I'd say either Walk or Cemetery Gates are my favorite songs.
Thank you for making me feel somewhat old.
I can kinda remember seeing something about him dying on the news when I was 11.
But yeah I DO like Pantera and Dimebag's stuff outside Pantera. Though I haven't listened to Damageplan all that much. I keep putting off getting a copy of New Found Power whenever I come across it at this music store I go to sometimes. They always have at least 3 copies of it so I don't have to worry about it suddenly not being there.
You know, the creepy thing is that he was shot in the same day as John Lennon.
Quite a coincidence.

It's not Pantera, but it's not bad.

Yeah, what I have heard from Damageplan wasn't all that bad.

My parents got married on the 9th anniversary of John Lennon's death o:
"Dimebag"?
Is that some kind of drug reference?
I do not approve!
Drinking a few Black Tooth Grins (a drink he invented) for him today.
The basic recipe is a double shot of whiskey with a splash of Coke (enough to just turn it black), but if you really feel like giving him a true tribute his recipe was:
1 oz Seagrams
1 oz Crown Royal
Splash of Coke
Domination is one of my favourite Pantera songs. It's just one of those songs that I'll be listening to and then realise that I've been bobbing my head all the way through.
Loved Dimebag's style though. Wonder what kind of music he'd be churning out if he was still around today.

Damn. If the local Wine and Spirits was open I'd be making these today.

I was just thinking the same thing about Primal Concrete Sledge, esp when it gets to that riff at about the one minute mark. You can't NOT make a metal face and bob your head to that.

Same here. :(
I bet he would have continued with Damageplan then a Pantera reunion at some point.
I've always seen Pantera as a so-so band with a few gems in their discography. Not particularly a fan, to be honest.
my favorites are "medicine man" and "i'm broken"

I was walking around town at like 2 in the morning and couldn't get I'm Broken out of my head ._.
I don't claim to be a fan. There's only one Pantera song I can really say I've listened to but it's a fucking good song and it shows how good simplicity can be. Walk. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AkFqg5wAuFk

That's awesome. Shit like this is why he's my top guitar player of all time.

Walk is a great song. Do you mean simplicity of the main riff? Because I can tell you that I've learned it and getting it to sound right is actually quite tough!

Anyone who can make the right sounds come out of a guitar I stand in awe of. But what I meant is it's just a simple driving beat and low concept lyrics. Just a balls out fuck off rock song.
Plus this song just linked me to killswitch engage covering holy diver. Dimebag would appreciate that awesomeness.
RIP, best shredder ever, probably would've saved the world if he had lived.
WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO THAT DUDE WITH THE RED HAT BROWN TRENCH COAT AND SHOTGUN?!?! I miss the old ASSASSIN days. Click Me

Hell yeah, "Be excellent to each other."
He would have said "dump a beer down your throat and get along."
Woah 9 years? I can still remember this happening. I might make today a day of the pantera playlist.
I remember being at a Machine Head gig a while back where they dedicated a whole show to him.
I liked the song "Fuck You"
Made me happy in high school.

Is it me or does the guy singing sound like Corey Taylor from Slipknot?

Taylor sings on this song, starting with the second verse, I believe.
i imagine the afterlife to be a massive concert, and i also imagine dime having regular guitar battles with various other famous guitarists.
