Dude, after hearing criticism of Mohandas Gandhi, Mother Teresa (who happens to be the most loved person ever) and the Dalai Lama, it seemed inevitable someone would dig up dirt on this guy as well. I'm pretty much desensitized.

If given the chance, someone would have dug one on Jesus, it tells you something anyhow. Then again, it's pretty much the world we live in.

I brushed up on my history of Mandela, the man lead a very long and eventful life for sure. However, I was most interested in how distorted people's view on him are. Its actually rather hard to find articles detailing the exact actions of the MK which Mandela helped found and his actions in the terrorist organizations he was in and the actions of those groups. The ends he sought were noble, but his means were heinous, civilians (100 of them) didn't deserve to die to serve MK's, ANC and Mandela's own political ends.

I'm a bit of a historical purist, I say present the truth as it was and not through your rose tinted glasses, no distortion or perspectives. I see a lot of people make excuses for those actions which resulted in so many dead civilians but I don't think those justify anything, I also think the argument that some how his good deeds erases or diminishes these actions.

Mandela did a lot of good in his life, but as many have said here, you can't erase the terrible actions that occurred to those innocent lives and say the ends justified the means, Nelson Mandela founded a terrorist organization, that organization killed over 100 innocent lives and he continued to encourage it further. I think the man's just actions and dedication to his people should be celebrated, but I won't sing dirges for the man himself.
