Hello,
This topic touches both animation and audio, so I was confused where to put the thread. I think though that since audio is the main focus, I'll put it right here.
I think most of you guys have seen this video that floated around on the internet a while back:

Here's another similar but not as famous and good video:

Anyway, has anyone here tried making this kind of stuff? And especially, do anyone here know if anyone has applied this kind of audio to an animation of some sort? I think the results of that would be pretty amusing. Actually I'm considering doing something like that. I would though need to get the right gear to record the sound, so it's just wish-thinking right now.
Anyway, any thoughts on combining animation with 3D sound? Would it work? Would it be interesting? Has it already been done?

Oh, and yeah, if you haven't done this before: You should close your eyes while listening to the audio.

Id say you have to be careful what sounds you use, for example: How would you animate something thats behind you?

I would try actually turning the Microphone the other way to the sound you are recording (common sense!) Although it sometimes might turn out different.... You have to get the mix correct of course, not impossible but takes time.
You know, an acoustic guitar sounds cool if you record it in a corner of a room with the microphone turning the other way... (Done this at a studio and it only came out good once...)

I imagine a 3D animation that would be in POV. Imagine if you could walk around with that microphone in a good way, and make some sort of realistic-3D-animation-walking-around-somewhere-animation. Or, you could just have some stuff happening behind you and the camera doesn't look back at it. It's not that necessarily.

Binaural recordings rigs are expensive as fuck usually.
You can get plugins that simulate that, but its kinda weird to toss into music. I definitely use the crap out of these techniques when mixing SFX or foley in a film for the stereo version.
