Damn
I might be sitting on a small goldmine, I have tons of it in glass jars in my attic
I have a hundred old ones in my closet still. I haven't replaces an old fashion light bulb in like fucking 2 years

Ah, that explains why I don't use 200W bulbs.
I think the highest wattage I use is 100W and then I normally use 60W. And I also have one 25W and one 75W "party bulbs" which I got on Halloween a few years ago. Ones a blacklight and the other is an orange light.

Even a local hardware store has been doing that up until recently.
Now consider adding bulbs from every home in america to that

Do you seriously think that everyone in America is just going to throw those bulbs away?
I'm sure half the people who buy them will dispose of them properly.
And I'm also sure that there are homeowners out there who still crush up their old tubes in the garbage can.

No, just collecting it in glass vials and jars

I just had to replace one that wasn't even a year old because it would crackle and pop for several minutes at startup, and I wasn't about to risk a fire by leaving it in (those that are made in China like to catch fire), and of course if you break one you're house is contaminated and you have to call in an expert mercury removal team (at least that's what the government tells us to do). Most don't like to be operated upside down too.
I like how companies gave Odumbo the middle finger (the ban on 100W was his idea after all) by creating 90W bulbs, which pretty much give off the same amount of light. I did buy a few boxes of 100's before they disappeared.
Banning 60 watt and less would be completely retarded considering 100W CFL's draw 60 watts. Really that's the only reason I have a few in my house. My fixtures can't handle more than 60W, and I need the extra light, so even with them I'm not saving any energy.

it was to prevent car break ins because that one dinky light at the intersection barely lit anything. but that was when I was living with family.

I use 100W CFL (Spiral ones) one in every room was all I needed, I might have a lamp that has two sockets so I put in one 75W colored one (usually red)
I don't know where in the world you all buy light bulbs, but we buy CFLs in packs of four, for 4 USD.
I've been using the more energy efficient kinds and they actually seem to be cheaper in the long run, so I have no reason to use the less energy efficient ones.

We don't have to deal with car break ins in my town. Granted I do live a couple hours from Chicago but we're far enough away where there is little to no crime in my area. Aside from drunk driving, people being out past curfew, or shop lifting and shit like that. We did have someone in town go after a few police officers with a chainsaw once....no surprise that he ended up murdering 2 people a year or two later.

We predominately use the standard non-spiral bulbs in all of the rooms in our house. The spiral ones ended up going out a lot faster than the other ones so we ended up not getting them anymore. Seriously it took like a month or two for a spiral bulb to go out and yet we've had the same bulb in a few rooms literally for YEARS.

true I live in a party town and in a year (in my neighborhood) we had 4 incidents 1 to many. plus a sisters ex boyfriend and custody issues on a child they had.

I just use the red ones when I still want light but its darker. the cfls are nice but I wish I could get some more Lumens out of them.

Actually, then now say to turn off your ventilation system, open a window, and collect the glass shards with sticky tape.
Most don't like to be operated upside down too.
It's only because hot air rises and that might shorten their life a bit.

Actually, George W. Bush signed it into law back in 2007 (2007 Energy Independence Act - look it up). And it's 72 watt bulbs, not 90.
Banning 60 watt and less would be completely retarded considering 100W CFL's draw 60 watts.
You trolling, or just really ignorant? 100 watt equivalent CFLs actually use 23 to 26 watts, max. Or maybe you're using some 60 watt halogen or something? Is it curly?
Really that's the only reason I have a few in my house. My fixtures can't handle more than 60W, and I need the extra light, so even with them I'm not saving any energy.
Well, lights only account for a small percentage of a home's total power bill.

Be glad to post a pic' of the 100W swirley CFL's that use 60W also.

I remember seeing those way back in the '90s!
And they're just downthrottled regular bulbs, not CFLs.
A proper hundred watt (or equivalent) today would produce 1600 lumens or more.

My dad too. Guess that was what all the cool kids did back then!
I am also a fan of LED but I am using the energy efficient curly ones mentioned by some others. Mine do not need to heat up, they come on instantly, but we do have to change them often.
This is a bit off topic but I know two people who have had the newer bulbs catch fire. One of them lost her house. The other was at home luckily and got it out. This was taken by my lucky friend who was at home.
They are all designed to fail. Look up "planned obsolescence".
CFL and LED alternatives will most likely continue to net the light bulb companies the same amount of profit. Either from increased price or a decreased lifespan. That doesn't mean that you can't save money by picking the more energy efficient option.
Use the technology you like the most. You can import hoards of inefficient incandescent bulbs while the CFL users die of increased levels of mercury in the ground water and the LED royalty bask in the light from the cool, safe, and much more pleasing daylight-balanced LED bulbs.

Yep. Especially since 40 and 60W bulbs will be banned by the end of the year now. Time to go get some.

40 and 60 watt bulbs will still exist.
Even with all the hoarders, there will still be plenty of old stock remaining.
That and you still have other shapes and sizes to choose from: Globe, candle, appliance, tubular, vintage/Edison, etc.)

I fully expect 25W and smaller to go next. You'll have to put CFL's in your fridge soon.

Unlikely, since they don't sell as well as the brighter ones. That and they consume the same power as CFLs (while giving less light.
You'll have to put CFL's in your fridge soon.
Appliance bulbs will still exist, due to the fact that you cannot put any other bulb in a oven. But as for fridges, most of the newer high-end ones already come with LEDs built right in.
