If we didn't have our shit all over the middle east, oil would be outrageously fucking expensive, waaaaay too expensive for the average person to even fill up a tank of gas, and we'd run out way way sooner than if we did, which we do.

1. It's not about keeping it cheap, it's about keeping it period. The US has a few oil rigs in Texas, a few rigs in Alaska, a few offshore rigs, and a few fracking operations scattered around the country. That sounds like a lot, but if you took a year's worth of all that oil and natural gas and piled it into one big stockpile, it would barely support a few states for several months.

2. I don't think you understand how important oil is. You really have to consider all the shit that the US does that requires oil. I'm not just talking about gasoline for the average citizen to putter around in a car, I'm talking about the literally thousands of international flights, the thousands of tons of cargo that 18-wheelers carry from state-to-state to supply the nation with food and commodities, the hundreds of international cargo ships that imports and exports hundreds of thousands of tons of cargo, everything. Without cheap oil, the entire nation would LITERALLY fucking COLLAPSE, do you not fucking understand that? Several states would have blackouts that lasted for weeks due to gas power plants not being supplied with what they need, hundreds of thousands, and eventually millions of people would starve to death due to cargo trucks not being able to transport food, and how would people be able to get to food vendors far away with nothing more than a bike? If the US ran out of oil, it would be fucking catastrophic, and I would gladly rip the guts out of hundreds of innocent second world middle easterners if it meant preventing full nation-wide shutdown.
