Let's put it this way - words are really nothing more than a combination of oral sounds (or letters in the case of written language). The only reason this particular word is considered horrible is because of the stigma behind it. Without the stigma, it's simply just a derogatory word. By attempting to ban the word, you are only attempting to remove the word, but not the stigma behind the word. Even without the word, the feelings and the thoughts conveyed through the use of the word still exist; it's like trying to shelter a child from vulgar language - the words contain no meaning to them until they understand the concepts behind the word. It really is pointless and two-dimensional to try to rid our language of certain words thinking that it will help to remove the meaning and thoughts behind it.

Personally, I don't say slurs often at all, matter of fact I only said the "n-word" one time to someone. This black woman was going way to fast and about hit my girlfriend and I. She followed us to a Panera parking lot and when we got out of the car she started yelling at my girlfriend. So I got pissed and called her the "n-word" and told her to fuck off. Not a good idea cause that made matters worse but eventually the manager walked out into the parking lot and told her to leave or they would call the police.
