I just looked this up. Please don't tell me it's Brian, this would be a disaster.

Brian is a douche. He's one of the reasons I stopped watching Family Guy. Good riddance.

Brian was basically a dog playing Seth Mcfarlen (not the other way around)
So yeah, I kind of held him more accountable, unlike, well a normal cartoon character.

He kind of evolved into the worst character on the show, so I guess if there was one person they could afford to whack it was him.
Who will Seth broadcast his opinions through now?

You're just saying that because he's a liberal.

He's not going to stay dead. Vinnie reeks of placeholder. Even if he didn't they are not going to kill off a Seth Macfarlane character. That would lower their quotient of Seth Macfarlane talking to Seth Macfarlane and damn it Seth Macfarlane needs something to masturbate to.

Well, of course. Sure if you're a far-left douche like him, I guess he's not a bad character. But all that one-sided preaching isn't good for any show. One of the things that makes South Park so great is how they'll make fun either side, and without being so pretentious.

Stopped watching the show a few seasons ago, but this has caught my interest. Which I guess is exactly what they intended.
You look nice today.
This guy brutally sodomizes me.

I haven't watched the show intentionally in ages. All I know is if this is like any other Family Guy shocking tweest type episode, it will sort itself out again all in due time.

I watched the episode and was honestly expecting there to be some big plot to get Brian back. The excuse that Stewie's guy couldn't get him his "necessary part" to rebuild the time machine to save Brian seemed really forced.
I dunno. This just screamed out that it was a cheap ploy to get people to pay attention to the show.

I'd take South Park's "everybody is stupid" worldview over Family Guy's "liberals are right about everything" worldview any day.

Why did they do this, anyway?
There was no reason at all to "kill off" a major character, other than to get people talking and drum up ratings.
I guess I just answered my own question.

This is Family Guy in a nutshell.
It has become nothing but Seth MacFarlane.
The show itself is really just a front for Seth MacFarlane's opinions. Not that there was much value in the show to begin with, but they haven't even attempted to make anything funny or original in a long, long time.

If they should kill any character off that show, it should be Meg. She is probably one of the worst character in the whole fucking show.
But then again, if there is no Meg, then who's to hate on the show?

Steve Callaghan: Well, this was an idea that got pitched in the writers room and it sort of caught fire, and we thought it could be a fun way to shake things up.
This is pretty much how I feel about it. They just want to "shake things up" and try to keep the show alive for a little while, hoping that this minor change will do the trick to freshen up the writing.

I missed the episode (due to a family event) and saw the spoiler by mistake.
At the same time, though, I looked at the episode list on Wikipedia.
The "Upcoming Episodes" section has episodes called "Brian's a Bad Father" and "Brian the Closer" listed.
Also, there is an article about Maya Rudolph and Glenn Howerton in a 2014 episode that involves Brian falling in love with a marathon runner.
Is Brian really gone for good? Something tells me he will return, somehow.
Feel no mercy for me. It will only cause you to suffer as well.

How long will it stick?
Even then, Brian used to be a good character but later on he devolved into what you can describe as a "Liberal douche". It's one of the reasons why Family Guy went downhill for the past seasons. I liked him much better in the early seasons but in the recent ones, I felt like punting him.
