Not surprised that Harvard ends up on every ranking list. Such an overrated school.
Just chillin' like always.

Including reputation in a work that makes a list that affects the reputation of universities is kind of... meh...
I've also found that the Université de Montréal is ranked in the top 100, while my university is nowhere to be found. Which is funny, considering that a lot of our teachers work for both universities.

@SneakyGameBoy I'm still suprised that there's another NGer going to the same university as me, or even lives in the same state. Omegeist is pretty much the only other NGer I know lives here in NC.

Honestly, I think some of the universities were placed at the top of the list due to political reasons mainly.
Only losers take these rankings seriously. But that is just my opinion. The quality of universities depend on a lot of other factors not considered by those rankings and cannot be objectively evaluated.
Also, even the best universities do not have strengths in every field. If you insist in rankings, it makes more sense to compare individual departments.
PS The university I studied in was ranked the top 30 worldwide.

Yeah I'm also surprised too. There's also a few I know that are in this state too.

Maybe (and I tend to agree). But the schools on your CV carry a lot of weight. A degree from a state school or national university might be worth a lot in in that region, but it doesn't have the same name recognition as a celebrity school.

University of Singapore?

I agree.
Also, I think for students things like job opportunities, graduation percentages, tuition fees, infrastructure, accommodations, etc. are far more useful criteria for a comparison between universities.

BTW, CalTech beats MIT on all four years on this site for their overall criteria, but MIT still wins out on reputation. What are you referencing?

ironic if you aren't talking from your own experience with studying at harvard but rather are just pulling that kind of libel out of thin air . . . i guess talk is cheap to some people lol

Education-wise going to Harvard (for undergrad) is probably similar to going to any other top college. Grad school would be a different story since it depends on department, but I imagine Harvard is no slouch in quite a few areas.
Having stayed with friends at Harvard before, the facilities offered to students weren't so amazing, though (printing not free, lights broken in bathrooms, buildings are older in general, etc).
But where Harvard really wins is through its opportunities and network. Complain about prestige not being worth anything all you want, but if you apply for a job and have Harvard on your resume, then there's a good chance an employer going through hundreds of resumes is going to spend a little more time on yours.
And with a huge network of alumni, getting a job or at the very least experience and information in the field of your choice becomes considerably easier.
