2D animator needed for book trailer 2013-11-17 23:19:21 Reply

Hello Newgrounds!

I'm a total newb here but I'm not unfamiliar to Newgrounds and it's awesome animations that gets around the place, even though I'd love to do animation I'm more of a an artist and writer by graphic novel standards, which is what I'm here to talk to all of you about and in hopes to find a willing animator to help me make a 3 minute trailer to promote my book when it's complete!

The graphic novel I'm doing will be a series of novels that take place in an alternate post-apocalyptic world about horses. The first book is called "The Fake Horse" and it's 3 years after the end had come, a young man who wears a horse mask is bent on protecting a heard of horses and a few ponies from savage flesh-eaters left from the fallout along with raiders, and is trying to make a meaningful and peaceful life in the world with his family of horses.

It's a big passion piece, a labor of love in every page. It's a book that's a love letter to equine animals, an anti-horse-slaughter message and debating the merits of how companionship wins over harsh survivalism. I am in the stages of finishing up the drawing part before I go back to put in extra details, colors for the black and white and lettering so I can finalize it for copyright and release it online for all to see and sell to those that want a solid copy.

I am looking for someone who wants to get on this for nothing at all except for just a bit of notoriety for him/her work which I'm sure won't disappoint those that see your up-and-coming craft at work as well as my own, so it's a win-win!

I want it to look amazing, beautiful, terrifying and just an amazing trailer.

If you want to see more about the project you can go to: http://www.gorypumpkin.com/

You can contact me on Facebook which would be the best place to contact me, just look up Toby Johansen. Or e-mail me at gorypumpkin@yahoo.com

I look forward to working with whom ever is willing!

You can make a trailer for your book yourself!
Take a camcorder and record your book from a short distance. You can turn over a few pages.
Then put some epic, very deep voice on top of the video, telling exactly what you wrote in your first post.
Then put some overly dramatic music on top of this entire footage. The music must get louder near the end.
Also, don't forget about transition effects, such as fading with black and other transitions that are looking cool.

The video will be 10/10 this way. Fuckin' guaranteed.

Let's boil that post down to some key words and phrases for those that may not have enough time to read the whole piece:

i.e. "Hello. I am looking for an animator to make a beautiful, terrifying, amazing 4,320 frame animated trailer for my uncompleted book (prominently featuring one of the hardest creatures to animate: horses) for free, so it's a win-win. Thx!"

Let's not be evil and plain sarcastic. The thread started did not mention that you would have to actually redraw the horse in every frame. He didn't say you'd even need to draw horses in order to make this. Which is why I got an idea of giving a tip on making absolutely anything ultra damn epic, instead of being snide like you, and honestly, I considered being snide and joking around, but damn it man you're evil.

Well, it was just going to be an animated trailer that had scenes taken from the book like the world ending, Scavers attacking, just a lot of intensity and toward the end it would have just quick shots to go with the rising fast-paced music and then BOOM....in the end of the trailer the title character wakes up to a beautiful colorful sunset having slept on the belly of his dearest mare companion before they walk together into the woods, then fade to black.

But I think I'll just make a live-action trailer that'll be all artsy but still have something interesting to show about the book.

Thanks anyways, maybe I'll come back to seek animators for an animated movie I'd love to do in 2015.

We'll be waiting! That's a lot of time, you could learn to animate, by the way.

I really want to, along with learning to take care of a shetland pony to be my companion pet. Anywhere I can learn on Newgrounds? Even though I still would like to work with animators.

To learn animation you need 2 things:
1) constant practice (for ex. in Flash, you can buy for cheap some old Flash 8 Professional on Amazon) in some program or on a real lightbox
2) a book, tutorials, acrticles, etc - sources.
Newgrounds is not a very good source of animation knowledge, because it is so unorganized.
But if you stick around animation forums, reading everything that experienced people are writing in the threads, you can accidentally hear some very useful tips about animation.

Newgrounds may have a thread from which you can eventually (by following links and reading tons, tons of text) find tips on how to animate, or get a general idea about animation.

It's very important to note, that you won't learn anything if you do not practice, so find a way to animate and animate very much.

It's helpful to learn animation in your case, because it will allow you to communicate with animators better, understand their problems. Heck, you might even pull off the entire thing on your own.
