That's the one and only problem I have with modern liberals; they appeal to younger people pretty exclusively, and what you end up with is a general lack of knowledge of how an economy works

I'm just as progressive as any hardcore liberal, I think it's insane that gay marriage is even an issue, abortion should be left up to the parent, not the government, and so on, but I still have a basic understanding of economics

It's interesting you should say that; I must have a pretty mean sample bias living in Massachusetts. Picking only from people I know in real life, those who are supposed to be the most well-educated, well-read, and realistic decision-makers are liberals and independents. The people I know who aren't liberals are stoners and a bible-thumping Marine who was kicked out of a state school.

It's like if you walked into a room and said "Ivy Leaguers, College Grads, Millionaires, and Intellectuals to the left" and "Stoners, Dropouts, and Manual Laborers to the right".

Well, I have a pretty hard bias towards capitalism myself, I've been trying to get a jerky company started for the last several weeks.

The private sector is simply superior to the public sector in every way, cities that have bid out government services to private companies are growing in number, and to my knowledge there hasn't been one single case of privatization of a standard government service failing. The reason capitalism is so much better is because of competition; the government won't fire itself, but if a company they hire does bad, they can just fire them and get the next guy. Government workers are very expensive, and have little incentive to do good work due to the fact that it's virtually impossible to fire them (I'm mostly referring to city workers, their pay comes from the government), however companies compete for lower and lower prices, and the workers know that if they don't do a good job, they get fired, so their incentive is pretty high.

As unsettling as it might sound to some people, we need to privatize everything. Water services that have been privatized noticed cleaner, cheaper water. Libraries that have been privatized saw higher attendance, larger book collections, and many are installing laptop dispensers that let visitors rent laptops for free so long as they return them.

As I already said, that's not the case. Read my post a bit up there about the private sector vs. the public sector, although judging from your last several posts I'd be willing to bet you don't even know what that means.

Those are god awful examples. Those are fast-food joints; you want cheap food made really fast, and so you get cheap food made really fast. Go to a red lobster or an outbacks, the prices are a lot higher, the food quality is higher. Go to a 4-star restaurant, the prices are extremely high, the food quality is extremely high. With capitalism, you get what you pay for.

Personally, I wouldn't mind the kind of Socialism that's being done in Canada. Sure if the Government is completely involved, shit hardly ever gets done, but the other extreme is Laissez-faire Capitalism, which as history would tell us, is pretty shitty as well. I think a good mix of free enterprise combined with some government regulation is the most reasonable approach to government, but that's just my opinion.
