I personally think that for a $250 price point, EWQLSO has some of the best orchestra samples you will ever get at that price point. Their hollywood strings/brass/woodwinds packages are currently considered top-of-the-line, last I heard.
The PLAY engine, however, is the worst piece of shit I have ever used. EVER. I despise it with the hatred of a thousand suns. There are no words for how utterly broken and retarded it is. It sucks up RAM like nobodies business and utterly destroys my CPU even without convolution reverb. Considering that convolution reverb is several orders of magnitude more complicated than PLAYING A GODDAMN WAV FILE, I can only imagine the horrifying code that lives in the depths of that sampler. I should know, I wrote an audio engine that plays a wave file. It can play over 200 over them at the same time and barely scratch the CPU. It can even do this while converting a 32-bit integer format to floating point on the fly. I literally cannot emphasize just how catastrophically retarded this sampler engine is.
In a similar fashion, Native Instruments makes some of the best sounding synths in the industry. It also has some of the most catastrophically bad UI design I have ever seen, and the worst DRM I have EVER had to deal with. I had to use a virtual machine because their service center instantly crashed on 64-bit windows 7. This bug was only fixed like 6 months ago, despite existing for almost 2 years. Guitar Rig is needlessly convoluted and half their products have a giant raging hard-on for module-based UI even when it is laughably inappropriate.
There are no words for how much I hate the programmers at Native Instruments and EWQLSO.
