No piracy or joking around, just finished reading this article on Apple's recent move towards free software, and am just as shocked more or less as Microsoft may be after finding out.
What's your reaction? Is this good, or is it bad? Is it significant?

summary:
os x mavericks is free and apple is supposedly heralding the end of os sales
iwork and ilife will be free on new apple devices
apple is basically looking to future and trying to earn what would have been revenue from selling the os with ibooks, app sales, itunes match subscriptions etc instead

I guess that essentially takes the pee out of it, yes?
I mean I know this is wishful thinking, but it'd really make my day if the new[er] versions of iLife featured a fully loaded version of Garageband (that is, all Jam Packs built-in and ready to go); I believe it would sweeten the deal for those that know this type of software is now nowhere purchasable outside of stores like Amazon.

Thanks, that works. Hmm, I like the idea of a free OS... but nothing's free. Bloatware comes to mind. Different computer vendors have been using that as a means to make extra money for years, but Windows in it's freshly installed state has always been clean and usable, hope this doesn't kickstart an era of... unwanted software. Apple used to bundle up their Quicktime with iTunes, at least for Windows, so you couldn't download the plugin without getting the other. I can't say I like their marketing tactics...
But who knows, maybe this will all spark a change for the better! :D

This is going to be the new Sony vs. MS, with OS' instead of consoles.
Shit is going down.

Yeah, I'd like a new economically friendly Apple. I doubt any of their hardware prices are gonna go down, though.
And the free iLife and iWork stuff is really sweet. Too bad I'm probably not getting any new Apple products anytime soon. I might pick up a 5S, but I'm kinda interested in the HTC One Maxx or whatever.
If the Macbook Pro didn't cost a million dollars, I'd totally get one of the retina versions. High resolution laptops are things that need to happen to every laptop ever made.
Who gives a SHIT about the Chromebook Pixel or whatever, anyway?

I think the real joke here is that people are probably still going to use windows instead....
and nothing says you have a shit product better than people still refusing your shit product when its free.
