Morning everyone.
I was wondering who else used this software to create tunes, I have been using it for about 6 months and find it very easy to use (interface wise) but limiting on its guitar aspects and sounds.
Does anyone know how to improve a guitars tone using mixcraft with a real guitar and a direct cable.
Or is there a better software? what do you use?
Cheers

I used it all the time a while back, I really loved it....
The thing is, when recording guitar and a direct cable, the quality seems to be quite.... bad.. If you are directly pluging in a Jack lead from the guitar into your computer then you might want to get a soundcard, that will 'improve' some slight things...
What amp do you have? I would recommend if you have it... Using the Amps output (I can't remember from my head what its called} but on some amps, you have a output to plug into your computer/soundcard which allows you to record the amp instead of using a amp on Mixcraft.. (It will sound better)...
A couple of Blackstar amps have that, so if you have one... check! :P
How do you mean improve the guitar tone itself? Is it actually distorting, buzzing?

This is REALLLY USEFUL!! lol
yea i am getting alot of distortion and *trying to put into words* if i use it with midi samples it sounds like it doesnt belong like it is not part of the room (i know thats a weird description)
at the moment i am not using an amp, i have a cable that jacks straight into the guitar and a ASOS software to improve delay. I also use a BOSS metal zone pedal.
i Find myself 'DEessing' most tracks to get the notes to come out properly (and yes i turn down the distortion)
i will start to look into amp'age, i just want the best sound that i can get.
cheers again

Well, actually the only thing you should buy is an audio interface, for plugin your guitar into your computer. You'll notice some quality improvement. After that, you can have great guitar tones with only freeware VSTs.
I don't use mixcraft myself, but I think it hast VST support. For my music I use almost only free VSTs. Check it out and if you like how it sounds, I can give you some tips.

I've never used Mixcraft 6, but I was an avid user of version 5. I used it for a lot of my early film scores, and even recorded & mixed my band's entire album with just that program.
as for recording guitars direct, have you tried Mixcraft's amp sims? there should be two of them (Voxengo and Shred). although personally, you'd be better off investing in a better amp sim like Guitar Rig or Amplitube.
