Flash layers question. 2013-10-19 03:55:07 Reply

Right so i started messing around with flash and i have made this 5 second animation test.
But it order to make it, i drew everything on a guide layer with a blue lineart (like in real classic animation).

Now i want to draw the final lineart in another layer. that means i want to draw a black line on the blue sketchy lines.
when i select the new lineart layer, the sketch one is still shown with 100% opacity. i want it to look transperent according to what layer i have selected so i can draw it correctly over it.

how do i do that?

Since the guide layer is in one opaque color, you can select all the objects within the frame and click the bucket fill color and set the alpha percentage for transparency. To make this process much faster, you can set to "edit multiple frames" on your timeline and adjust your your onion skinning to select the frames you want to edit all the once. Select all the objects and set your alpha on your paint bucket fill.

I assume your new to flash so I advise you to make multiple back ups of your project because flash isnt stable.

I know how to do this more easily:
Step 1) Select all the frames on your guide layer.
Step 2) Right-click on them and select "Cut Frames"
Step 3) Press Ctrl+F8 to create a new Symbol.
Step 4) Paste the frames into the new symbol.
Step 5) Go back to your movie.
Step 6) Place the guide-symbol on the guide layer in the first frame.
Step 7) Select the guide-symbol and press Ctrl+F3 to open Properties panel.
Step 8) In the Looping options make it Loop or Play Once.
Step 9) In Color Effect make it be Alpha at 50%.

Note: on step 3), when creating a new symbol, make it's type Graphic.
Note: In Properties, set the position X and Y to 0 so that it stays in the same place as it were before you cut the frames.
