It's a stupid, idiotic situation fueled by poor fools who have nothing better to do than to live outside of themselves. You have a girl who understands what's going on. Presumably you have friends that do too. Let it blow over, and let this inform you about who your true allies are.

Unless he attacks you again, then, well, it's only self defense if you fight him exactly to the point that he's done.

And if he attacks you again and you don't successfully defend yourself, well, you have a bullshit pussy school system at your back that, if you so choose, will annihilate him for it.

And if you really think it's more important to kick his ass, make sure someone sees him throw the first punch. Having a witness, a reliable one, or more than a few, is worth more than gold. If someone sees you defending yourself with words, then defending yourself, literally, against another attack, it makes this kid look even worse.

But I say DO NOT instigate, do NOT pick a fight, and wait to see what happens. Nothing you can do will actually make this kid less of a fool, but you should avoid a conflict if you can.

It's all up to you, but I counsel you not to do anything you don't need to do, especially attacking or goading him unprovoked. (further provoked, that is.)

This is some high school drama. It will pass. I know you're angry, and that's cool, but don't worry about it.
