Solo Instrument - Harmonica 2013-10-14 07:22:31

I have not played a harmonica in 10 years, and I only just got my purchased Chromatic Harmonica today. I blew into it, and all of my memories instantly came back to me. The Harmonica is an iconic memory of mine, it lives within my heart (not literally of course) and I will breathe with it for when I fall upset or lonely.

I wish to share with this community a track that I just compiled (I am unsure of whether or not my account is approved yet, although I have been a part of this community for over a year now) titled "Distance With Nature". I used Audacity simply as a template for recording multiple tracks and melded together what my expertise is with the Harmonica. I have still yet loads to learn with the Harmonica, especially with having consistent breathing, knowing how many seconds I hold my breath on a single or double note, keeping within the rhythm of the rest of each one track pre-recorded into Audacity.

It is a lot to take in, and a professional Harmonica recording would take a lot of effort. However, I am confident my skills are just as good 10 years ago, and wish to share it with you.

You may find my track here: http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/552989

Enjoy! Discuss what you think of the Harmonica as a solo instrument and please let me know of your thoughts of the track either here or on the song.

Sorry, I'm not digging it. You have to play and beat-box at the same time to get anywhere with harmonica these days

Literally just did a quick bit of research on soloing a Harmonica and as far as I can see, the Harmonica is perfectly acceptable as a solo instrument. I have never done beatboxing and I honestly have no intention to - maybe it's something I can learn over time but I am not a professional artist - I do too many things already in terms of computers (software and video game development, as well as learning Business at college). I do not wish to learn another form of "something else" just so that I can please certain people.

Thank you for your opinion, though.

Hello welcome. No you've not been scouted for the audio portal, because you've uploaded your first song yesterday. It usually takes a while. Just keep at it and let yourself be seen in the forum, like you do now.

You're actually not allowed to make threads to advertise your songs.

If you want your song to be heard try the audio advertisement thread

http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/253861

Also helpful is the review for review thread.

Review the last song, and request a review for your own song.

Btw I listened to your song. I don't know much about harmonica music, but it sounds fine to me. I think the recording could've been better. You say you use audacity? You know it has a tool to remove base noise. I don't think you've used that tool. There are plenty of other ways to improve the recording process and enhance your recordings. You may want to look into them. Good luck.

Sorry, I did not know that was a form of advertising. I just thought "it's an audio forum, you should be allowed to share your music there." Nevertheless, thanks for your advice and I will keep that in mind for future productions.

Any time that you upload a link somewhere in the initial post of the thread for any sort of reason, it's a form of advertising. There are some circumstances around this though. But I would honestly just avoid posting your music in the forums altogether unless the thread is about posting your music in it.

Much to everyone's dismay that has ever heard me playing the harmonica, I cannot play. I have learned that blowing random notes apparently doesn't constitute as music. Harmonica is often like masturbating in a public space, you may be enjoying it, but everyone else thinks it's horrible.
Harmonica can be used as a solo instrument, but often to the not very skilled player, either just sounds like random drones, or playing a piano one note at a time, just boring. These techniques can sound pretty awesome with more instruments going on.
LOL I DONT EVEN PLAY THE HARMONICA THIS IS JUST CONJECTURE.
