Religion forced onto friend. 2013-10-12 12:42:59 Reply

I have a friend who is trying to move out of his moms house. he doesnt need to move out right away, but currently his only option is to move in with this religious family that is going to make him go to church with them every sunday and he will not be allowed to drink alcohol because it is a "sin"not even when he goes out to a friends house. It is one thing if is not allowed to drink at their house, but when he goes out, he should be allowed to drink assuming he is responsible. This religious family told him that they wont force their religion on him, but making him go to church and not allowing him to do what they consider "sins" sounds like forcing a religion on someone. I am not religious, and i try not to dump on anyones beliefs, but i cannot tolerate it when it gets forced upon easy targets.

He is 30 years old, responsible with alcohol, but does require some assistance because he is mildly disabled.

a disabled 30 year old who lives with his parents shouldn't be drinking (or even living, but that's an argument for another day)

I agree with every part of this statement.

Midly disabled people can live on their own, of course it depends on what the disablement is but if its mild they should be able to.

A 30 year old man can live by himself and shouldnt feel pressured into anything because you know hes a grown fucking man

So, if rape is about power and control, and not about sex, you would be able to metaphorically claim that they are raping your friend with religion.

Except drinking alcohol isn't considered a sin in Christianity. Right?

actually it's very much a sin if you read the bible see for instance galatians 5:21 "envy drunkenness orgies & things like these. i warn you as i warned you before that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of god" & ephesians 5:18 "do not get drunk with wine for that is debauchery but be filled with the spirit" & there's no two ways about it

Now I could say that the priests are actually the greatest sinners, but I doubt I'd tell anybody anything new.

Your morals make me laugh. "It's not okay", "It's not fair", etc. The strongest, most cunning and wealthiest makes the rules, your friend always has a choice: move out somewhere else where he can drink, stay and obey the rules or stay, break the rules and get kicked out.

It's that fucking simple.

If the holy spirit tastes like the piss they call communion wine then I'd much rather remain a servant of Satan.

I am an anti-American communist sympathizer, but I really wonder what this has to do with this thread.

it has more to do with your ethos & why your opinion on the topic of religion doesn't really matter i guess

The man is 30 years old. If he can't fend for himself at that age, he should welcome any and every higher power into his life.
