I suppose it was only a matter of time. Looks like it comes with its own Jarvis too, in a way.
I'd love one, but where would I put it? I only have so much closet space.

Troy Hurtubise back in the late 80s early 90s who tried to make a suit like that. Possibly inspired by Robocop to protect you from bears.

Iron Man's armor is a complete exoskeleton, and allows him to fly.

It's just nicknamed the iron man armor because it's supposed to be able to completely protect you from any standard caliber of gun

Ten bucks says it's made with liquid unobtainium actuators and powered by an unobtainium radioactive isotope engine, and they need 500 million for research.

I collect tactical gear, and I will tell you first hand that it is already being done by those who have enough money for it. These suits cannot fly or anything but they offer full ballistic protection and they have motion-targeting and what not and work with the guns you use etc. They can detect threats and everything. They are even cooled from within like a spacesuit.
I am not claiming to have one- I buy very nice gear but I have nowhere near that kind of money. I can barely afford HPFU's- That is the most expensive thing I buy.
But if the military can buy it, than you could too. Just bring the money up to the table ;) Private companies make this type of stuff.

I love how fucking overpowered the US military is
Laser cannons, static shielding, optical cloaking (still in development), and my all time fucking favorite, gigantic rail guns that fire large metal rounds thousands of miles an hour from magnetic rails, quite literally the Magnetic Accelerator Cannons (MAC) from Halo, capable of obliterating any material on earth.
And this is just the beginning, in the next 50 years, the US military is gonna become even more badass.

I should also probs mention:
Geospatial satellite technology which actively maps the entire planet
Spaceplanes which can be deployed to orbit with an hour's notice
Missiles which can target any satellite in orbit
Missiles which can hit any location on the planet in 30 minutes
Planes which can hit any location on the planet in 2 hrs
Predator drones piloted from fucking Arizona
Remote controlled cockroaches carrying video cameras
Bullets which can turn 90° in mid flight
Guns which shoot pain rays
Guns which shoot lightning
Speakers which fire sound directly into a crowd's skull, projecting voicees into a target's inner ear
Speakers which inversely equalize sound vibrations, effectively silencing sound for a target
Vertical turbines which create and launch miniature tornadoes
That's still only a small portion of the US military Prowess

But the thread title was very misleading, making us think that it was ust named Iron armor because it can withstand bullets but Iron Man armor, you know, like the superhero?
It is impressive though.

I bet an RPG-7 with 2 rockets is cheaper than that armor. Plus an RPG can blow the wearer to pieces, and I'll use the 2nd rocket to turn him/her to sauce.

The point of the armor is to deploy it with Special Operations covert operator missions as a way to mitigate more probable gunfire. Targets don't normally have RPGs on hand to destroy humans, they save them for when they're fighting large groups and vehicles because they're more difficult to smuggle.
Also, I would think that rather than destroy this sort of armor, they would try to capture and neutralize the wearer, and use the armor for themselves.
Just an 02er.

"That sounds like a very heavy load to carry. But the weight could be mitigated by a type of liquid armor being researched at MIT. It would use magnetorheological fluids and transform from a liquid to a solid in milliseconds with the application of a magnetic field or electrical current."
So...
Couldn't the enemy just make a weapon that applies said magnetic r electrical field to the suit and melt it off the soldiers?
Sounds like a serious design flaw to me.

I've always thought we should have fighter jets with speakers capable of blasting "We Will Rock You" across a continent, but that's just me.

That would be so cool. We already have a lot of useful materials being developed. Nano-tube armour could come next, after the space elevator.

The only thing i am not reading in this thread is any acknowledgment of the fact that TALOS is a concept armor. The Pentagon is looking for a dream team of scientists, engineers, contractors, fabricators, and body armor developers to design a prototype.
What was the last supposedly awesome product America promised it's military? The Osprey. A VTOL aircraft with heavy caliber weaponry, anti air and anti ground capabilities, troop transport capable, and a fail-safe rotary locking prop system to safely land the aircraft, with or without a pilot, in case of engine failure or heavy damage.
What did they get? A death trap with a mountable machine gun post bolted to the back ramp and some windows.

I could be wrong, but I think I once heard the US has enough weaponry to destroy the entire world six times. And they're trying to make the hell sure no one overtakes them. I hate that fucking country.
