No. I'm not joking at all. Grabbed a can of black high gloss rustoleum industrial paint, cleaned and sanded my 74 ford f-100's hood down just to really see if this shit would work and ...
holy damn, sure enough. That's 1 coat. WITH A ROLLER.
Complete and sexy car paint job for $60? Yes please. More coats to come.
A cheap way to paint your car red?
Throw a bunch of dead babies at it.

Uh, that actually seems relatively expensive honestly. And I don't think your "paint job" will come out right
I will paint anyone's car for free so long as they don't mind what I paint on it
you can do anything you set your mind to as long as you don't huff the fumes

Not per some of the forum posts I've been reading. It's just like applying paint to anything else. As long as the previous coats of paint are sanded, you're good to go.

Not any easier than roller painting any other kind of surface that gets subject to a lot of abuse I wouldn't assume. I guess we'll see when things progress more.

And are you absolutely certain a primer is unnecessary?
I'm pretty sure that's what they apply in the car industry before actually applying the paint. Maybe you can do without but the coating will probably not stick nearly as long as it would if you had applied a primer first.
Have you also cleaned after sanding? That's also better for the durability of your coating.

Agreed, intestines tend to make scratches and stuff

Well, again. This is a $50 paint job on a $700 truck I bought. If it lasts 5 years I'll be totally stoked. Plus the color is right now is absolutely the most horrible thing so even something moderately resilient is going to be awesome.
The tip I got for this was from here:
But yeah I cleaned the crap out of everything before I applied paint. Did a compression spray car wash on the whole thing, dry sanded with 80 grit and a random orbital sander and then cleaned off with 1:1 alcohol and water mix using shop towels before applying paint inside at around 70 degrees. I would assume it'll hold pretty damn good honestly.

Oh I see. Well if it's not an expensive car I guess it'll do. I can imagine you don't want to pay for a professional paint job that'll cost you more than the car itself.

You could also go out back tie whatever part of your car you want to paint to a tree and then shoot it with a paintball gun til it is sufficiently "painted".
Personally, I'd just use a spraygun, it's a lot easier, and a lot tidier than a roller.

Well, yeah but I don't have that kind of equipment nor do I have a place (garage, etc.) that I can actually spray paint in. I'm pretty limited.
BUT
Here is the finished product. BOOM. I'm kinda surprised how well it turned out honestly.

Huh. Looks similar to my dad's old Ford truck.
But his was: a '77, was green, and was an F150. But overall it's relatively the same body style.
I don't know what's with all the cynical fucks, the bottom line is that it looks good and it got to that point for cheap, nice job.

Yeah, well. Newgrounds is an odd place lol ... but thanks! I'm anxious to see how it holds up now.

Wow, you can't even tell that was done with a roller. Nice color choice as well.

Holy wicked! I must do the same to my cheap Volvo.

Good goin' OP! Yeah, good Rustoleum on a properly finished surface will hold up pretty well, though, I might've tried Hammerite paint. It's got glass beads in it, and really resists chipping.
What year is that gorgeous looking Ford? Kinda looks like Cooter's truck from the Dukes of Hazzard.... uncle Jesse also had a Ford pickup truck, but I think his was slightly newer and white.
Also, and for the record, there used to be a few places just inside NYC, "Paint your car for $19.99" I'm sure the price has gone up, but if you need a cheap and cheerful GTA style Pay 'n Spray, I think they're still in existence! The catch? They don't tape up squat. You'd need a razor-scrapper to get the paint off the windshield to get home.... or pre-tape the car and tow/trailer it in. So, if you see any matte-crappy looking cars in old films set in NYC, now you know.

Won't the paint start to fall apart?
Can it withstand temperature changes, water, ice, snow, dirt & other stains?
Can it be washed with all exterior car cleaning products?

lol, that's pretty awesome. My ford is a 74. The guy who sold it to me said it was the "camper special" or something like that so it had a bigger engine than most of the similar models (big block three-fifty-something? maybe? I dunno much about old engines). I believe it though! The thing hauls ass like you wouldn't believe. Sounds pretty beastly too.
I'm going to keep modifying it here and there and tweaking with it. I have a roommate who used to run auto mechanic shop who mentioned he'd be down to help me learn how to work on it which is pretty slick.
Honestly, on the paint job thing... if the paint job lasts two years, it'll be more life than I expected to get out of the car. Really this was more an experiment just to see what I could do with virtually zero prep work and minimal expense. I'm in probably $900 at most for the truck and hell if it isn't worth it so far. I can always redo it later if needs be.

Well, I just spent a few minutes trying to nail down your version... aside from a Ford tractor and a Ford 1983 4 dr. LTD, I'm not too familiar with the Ford brand, but having something bigger than a 350 in a truck that size, sure is potent!
Also glad the transmission's holding up well. Usually, 1st gear in rigs like yours, is what they used to call a 'granny gear'. I'm presuming it's a manual... can't see how it could be otherwise, unless someone stuck one in there.

Under a grand? You got a piece of American history there man... do take care of it, and consider getting another vehicle, just so you can keep the mileage down on that 'classic' (I was 1 or 2 y/o when that thing was built lol)

Well, I seem to have afforded a $25 can of paint just fine. So I guess you make a salient if not relatively irrelevant point.

Paint is a preservative against oxidation :( Any attempt to preserve the metal is a good thing, like sewing up a small rip before it gets bigger. There were times (and crappy cars), I just just smeared or sprayed grease onto rust spots - the paint would never stick there without significant cleaning, but sure as hell keeps the water, salt, tar, calcium from rusting new air holes in the body work. Rust never sleeps...

Man, funny cause the more I look around the interwebs the more I see some beautiful examples of that particular truck model. Minus the wheels, this is pretty much it:

Sounds more like mine either has a 360 or 390 (v8).
