Publishing Update

If you have uploaded a game or movie in multiple formats, you can now drag those files up and down on your project details page to set the priority for which one is served. We previously had a more complicated system for doing this and it went away during the last big publishing update. Since then, everything was defaulting to SWF when SWF was available but some artists preferred to make their MP4 versions the default. The existing preferences are now back in place and the new system can be used for future adjustments!

For anyone who is confused, our system allows you to upload multiple formats so that you can support a variety of devices. For example, a movie may be intended to be viewed as an SWF, but an MP4 version can be available for phones and other devices that don't support SWF.

We developed Swivel to convert your SWF movies to flawless MP4!

Similarly, an SWF game can have an HTML5 version available for devices that don't support SWF.

Madness Day winners are still coming!

Good news. I seem to recall another Zeebarf project up on Kickstarter recently... wonder how that went. I would pledge if the minimum was eh... maybe a dollar. Or five, tops!

Time to select the chosen submissions then! :D

You know what Tom? I am angry, very angry, you know why I am angry? I can't view the filesizes on movies, you might think its dumb to be so angry at such a trivial thing, but I am, and as a citizen of Groundia New, I demand to see file sizes on movies. We have a right to know!

Maaan, the videos for the movies are being automatically created by someone or something, if you don't provide a video file yourself. I mean, that's terrible. My movie had a stopAllSounds and it didn't even execute in the Movie. Is that Swivel? Also it read in the Publication Details that the movie file should be "up to 20 MB" and it actually let me upload a 47.8 MB video file, which is more than two times the allowed size.

Okay, stop whining. I enjoyed Journeys of Reemus when I first came to Newgrounds, and it was a magical, rich experience. That Kickstarter campaign is worth reading, and the artist deserves more.

I'll be sure to pony up some more cash then! He really should've added the Kickstarter to his recent post... its a very time sensitive matter, one which requires constant (or at least weekly) exploitation :|

Yeah, I'm still a bit confused... Gotta take the time to add this stuff to the NG Wiki Help section, especially Unity... or is that part of HTML5? I dunno, but do please take the time to flesh out NG's take on all this new wizardry. The 20th century version of NG had a good Q&A section on Flash, which convinced me to download it as an add-on (to MS IE 2 or3, I disremember which).

Also, is the info pod for games and movies going to get fixed? I'm a guy. I love details. I wanna know the filesize (which helps the EGB in discerning stolen/resubmitted submissions), what format, and what the author had for lunch right before submitting.

Is there ever gonna be an option for the person watching to manually switch between SWF/MP4, if they're on a computer? Because sometimes I want to see that perfect vector art and sometimes I just want it to load quick.

I'll say it's a possibility but it becomes another thing on the screen that likely confuses / scared away people who think there are too many buttons on our pages. It might be best as a general preference under your account options, like how you can disable the splash screen in front of under judgment and adult content.

Currently you can publish a Unity game using our HTML5 feature (you upload it in a ZIP with an index.html page that includes your Unity embed code). This isn't the optimal method though and official Unity support is on the way, along with an improved splash screen for people who don't have the Unity plug-in installed - it explains Unity better and has a link to download it, just waiting on implementation at the moment.

Also, is the info pod for games and movies going to get fixed? I'm a guy. I love details. I wanna know the filesize (which helps the EGB in discerning stolen/resubmitted submissions), what format, and what the author had for lunch right before submitting.

The filesize is expected to return... No ETA at the moment though!

Oh okay. When I initially saw it was gone I thought you decided to take it out because some people vote on submissions solely on the filesize and type of submission it is (if that makes any sense).

Would be awesome with such a feature! Btw, minor inconsistency in account setting text:

Automatically play general content
Auto-play "Under Judgment" content
Auto-play "Adult Rated" content

I got the chance to interview Jay (Zeebarf) Ziebarth about his KickStarter for The Ballads of Reemus 2. Some of you may recognize him from his many flash point and click adventure games such as "The Visitor" and his "Journey's of Reemus" series. In the interview we talk about the game, the KickStarter, as well as what made Jay want to make games in the first place.
