I've been interested in trying my hand at voice acting for awhile now, but I'm not really sure where to start... I'm curious about any tips one might be able to give me...
Though I don't have any real sample of my voice acting ability, I can give a sample of my normal speaking voice (as well as an idea of how my mic is... Not sure if that's good or not) because of an old web show I used to do with only mic. Here that is. Also, that was done without a script, so stuttering and stuff like that is an issue but I can usual avoid doing that when reading something.
So, any tips, advice, etc on where to start?

Start playing around with different character voices, end up with a few that you feel strong at. A better mic would be best, but it's good to do with what you already have if you're just starting out. Try to memorize a monologue or a dialogue from your favorite movie or videogame or whatever. Knowing what you're going to say before you say it is very important. You can try saying it out in different voices to practice. I think once you feel comfortable with all of this, then maybe think about making a demo reel. They're not very long and span a wide collection of voices in a short amount of time. If that's too much, then definitely consider trying your hand at the voice acting contests held in the audio section, it's great practice. VAC 11 will be coming ehhhh...some time. I don't know.

Just go for it! Jump in with both feet. Make a demo reel, about a minute, with all sorts of different voices, and put it on Newgrounds. One of the best things to remember is that it is simply acting with your voice - project, enunciate your words, and make it super flashy. If you think you're really good at a certain accent, put it in there. Don't include anything you're shaky on, concentrate on your strengths. Just start messing around and see what happens! :)

The two above are really good at voice acting, so take their advice for granted. I suck at it so I'll tell you what not to do. Don't imitate other people, or you'll end up being a lesser version of someone else. On Newgrounds comedy usually does better than drama, so you can keep that in mind, but just do whatever you're good at. Don't leave in breathing pauses or "err"s. Keep it short, snappy and flashy. Other than that, just give it your utmost. Your best voices, acting skills and production. Like ZipZipper said voice acting contest 11 is coming up this winter, so keep an eye out for that.
If you want mixing tips, I can send you a PM , because it will get quite lengthy.
