There is no such thing as a 'fish'. Stephen J Gould, an evolutionary biologist and paleontologist won the noble prize for proving there is no definite link between fish to categorise it as a 'species'.
If you were to take any 2 random fish within the ocean they would be far less related to each other than say a mammal, insect, etc. For (a very loose, broad) example, fish 1 may be more closely related to a bear than to fish 2. Therefore it is inaccurate and unwise to collectively call them fish.
