Howdy everyone.
I'm wondering what other people on here have in terms of experience with those of us who have Auto Insurance.
You see, my car was recently broken in to and the dick hole who did it stole my stereo headunit. Along with that, being that I have a 2011 Honda Civic, they inevitably took my Climate Control/Passenger Air Bag Light (So no airbags at all)/Hazard Light button and Vent. For those of you who know what the dashboard of a 8th Gen Civic looks like you catch my drift.
Now, I've already dealt with my insurance on this matter and fairly painlessly they have agreed to see that all of the OEM components that were stolen be replaced. Climate Control, etc etc.
However, my headunit was aftermarket and, be it worth noting, SUPER CHINESE. It was bought as a gift for me on Amazon, and whilst the headunit itself worked great. It had next to no information on it at all. It was one of those things that was built in the backwoods of China. Even the box said "GPS ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM" with a horrid generic picture of a car and no other information to boot.
My claims adjuster has told me that I will need to have the headunit escalated to a team who deals with aftermarket shit.
So, what can I expect?

Hi I have car insurance and I been in this kind of thing. first you file a police report (if you haven't already because those help) and notarize everything that is broken and or stolen then you get a copy of said report then file a claim with your insurance company and if you can try to get the worth of everything that was stolen and broken. hopefullly you have coverage thbat covers this sort of thing.
hope that helps.

I can't give you any advice about the insurance company, but seeing as that was probably a generic Chinese clone of a more popular product why don't you just find another headunit with a similar price and say that's what it was?

Already did that.
First thing I did was call the cops and let them handle it. I'm not naive enough to expect anyone to be caught or anything, but I certainly needed their crap on paper. Officer was nice, professional about everything.
I've been meticulous about noting everything down that I feel is related to the break in, that has been broken. To be honest, if you've never had your headunit stolen before. They leave a fucking mess of your car, and it really sucks ass to clean up.
It blows to go to your car on a Monday morning, heading to work, then looking in your car. Then you call your boss and say "Yeah, gonna be late, my car got robboed. Fuck"

They will comp you but be prepared for you rated to fucking skyrocket. You should have no reported it, not worth the money you'll actually be spending in the end. They also will not tell you they are raising it, just be prepared on the next few bills.

My policy is older than half the people who work there. I realize that my rates my go up, but to be honest. They stole a LOT of shit and it'd be a good thousand dollars to get everything back to the way it was taking it to a shop. I'm ready to put up a fight if my rates go up too much.

you'll get compensated but expect your premium payments to go up 10-20%

This is the number I've gotten and to be honest.. 10%-20% is nothing on what I pay. I'm fortunate that my insurance company was able to include me on all the nice benefits my grandmother has on her policy (policy is over 40 years old). So, to begin with I'm paying cheap ass rates for a 22 year old. 20% ontop of that wouldn't mean much to me.

don't go with alstate, in a pinch they will leave you to pay the whole thing plus whatever they think is fair for their bill, and if you try to complain they will snatch your plates and you'll have to argue with the dmv for 6 months and pay about 1750-2390 to get shit moving again.
