Where do I begin...? 2013-09-07 23:00:12 Reply

I really want to start working toward being able to animate videos, but I don't know where to start.

I own a Macbook Pro and the only program I have right now that can animate is Pencil, which has no line or shape tools and the flood bucket doesn't seem to work properly as it does in other drawing programs. I want to make cartoons like the Awesome series or Eddsworld, but I don't know what program to get and I don't want to blow $100 bucks or more on a program that is over my head or specializes in a more specific kind of artwork or something. Any advice for what program you would recommend, what I should start off doing to get better, or anything related to the subject (that isn't useless like "Get a life" or "You're stupid") would be appreciated. Thanks.

If you don't wanna spend more than 100 bucks then you better forgot about Flash or Toon Boom which is some of the best stuff around. And you're on a mac so you're limited a tad bit more.

Flipbook seems to be a good program that is a little better than Pencil.

Animoids is a free 3-D animation program so this will take longer to learn but it is free.

There isn't much more that's freeware or even under 100 bucks for me to tell you about. I wish you luck in your animation endeavors!

I didn't mean that I'm looking for something under 100 dollars (although that would be cool). I meant I don't want to buy something and then find out that it is too difficult for me to use or there was something better that I could have gotten instead.

I'll definitely look into the two you mentioned though. Thanks for the advice!

Personally I recommend you invest in a copy of Flash professional Cs3 or Cs4 if your serious about making these type of cartoons. You can find a cheap copy on amazon or ebay. Its well worth looking into since your toons will require sound, layers ect...
If your serious your craft is worth investing in.
You can find it on ebay cheep now since CS6 is like the current. (I still use CS4)

Thanks. I didn't even think to look on ebay or amazon (had I looked there for my school books, I would've saved a few hundred bucks :( ). Though I heard that flash is outdated, but easy for beginners (unless I'm thinking of something else). So, I would still be able to make decent quality videos with it?

Well if you wanna make stuff like the awesome series, use Flash that's what egoraptor uses. But personally
I suggest getting Toon boom Studio trial version, it lasts for 30 days. Then if you like it buy it, I believe it's 300$. It's a great program, Disney even used it while making The Princess and the frog.

Well flash Cs3 is outdated, if you want to be "hip" with the times then Cs6 is were its at. BUT you can still make excellent quality vids even if your on Flash MX which is like 2006 software. I use Cs3&4 I prefer Cs3 a lot less complicated in my book.
If you need any tips with FlashCs3 Id be happy to help when you get it. so yea.
