Hiya Newgrounds!
My name is John Montoya. I make music for Independent games. I want to help the independent community because I know the struggles first-hand (I am still struggling even now). I want to create a compilation of music from various independent musicians, including myself. I planned on using Pledgemusic.com for this campaign. Before I even start the campaign I planned on completing a few tracks on the album to prove that this is a legitimate fund-raising campaign. I wanted to run a contest of various forums like Newgrounds and OCRemix to have some independent artista showcase their music on this album. It will be completely non-profit on my and the other musician's part. The money will only go to the charity and whatever fees I need to pay for these websites.
I also plan on contacting Indie Game devs and ask if they could be apart of the rewards tiers. For example, I can have a donation set for $200. In this tier you can talk to the game devs on Skype and receive a free copy of their game. Part of that $200 will include payment for the game, unless they are willing to give it out for free. Of course rewards such as this will have to be limited.
This project is currently supported by one Indie dev - Xona Games (http://xona.com/games/)-- three #1 games in Japan (XBLIG). I am currently working on asking other game developers if they could help me back this idea.
Now I am here on the Newgrounds forums asking for your participation. This website is known for its amazing content and I would like to include this communty. It was because of this communty I was able to get a job making music for a game that is out now on Google Play and The App Store.
I would like to hold a mini-contest to see which artists I can feature on this album. I want to get at least 5 - 10 Newgrounds artists on this album. The only thing I ask is you post a SoundCloud link to your track and disable the downloads. If the track is good enough I will feature it on the album. You can also send me some of your original work that you have already submitted on this website. If I like your work I will ask you to create a few original tracks to be featured on the album.

Alright. Please, allow me to consider. This really sounds interesting. (I'm also thinking of how soon I'll be able to submit anything for this project, with what I've got going on at the moment, so I can't say yes or no yet.)

Yeah....im very skeptical about these. Don't get me wrong, i love good causes, but i hate to say unless it's started by Tom or the staff...I can't trust it. I've seen too many people run off with the money and these turn out to be scams....and seeing how the charity wasnt even mentioned at first only makes me wonder more. I really would like to trust others but it's unfortunately the world we live in and what has been done before.
Sorry...don't take it personally, if you really do have good intentions then i hope it goes well for you just, i just cant be for sure though. I'm all for good causes and helping out when it's a for sure thing.

Can you please give us more details about what kind of charity, where it goes, what it does, what's the target and how will help. Just posting a name with some emotional word (child) in the title doesn't really give us anything.
Under what license are we supposed to offer the tracks? why this "disable the downloads"? I keep all of my tracks for free download as a protest to ACTA/ CISPA and other similar crap, the only tracks not downloadable are the ones signed to record labels, but even some of those I arranged to offer for free.

No worries at all! I completely understand why you're skeptical. To be completely honesty you I had no idea how I would run this campaign. It was only after I started to assemble a fine team of musicians I started to clearly think about how I wanted to do this. We plan on sending most of the money to Child's Play (http://www.childsplaycharity.org/). The rest of the money will go to any fees we need to pay pledgemusic.com and if we decide to make t-shirts and other misc. items.

Seems pretty cool idea and has a pretty legit look. If you could tell more about what kind of licensing of the music is needed and why the music should not be available on other places, I might be in.

I said "disable the downloads" because we will be selling this album for charity. Again, most of the money is going to Child's Play. The rest goes to misc fees and rewards for our donors.

Well, I had a track on an album for sale to help victims of tsunami and kept it also on my Soundcloud for free download. Who wants to buy & help will pay, who doesn't want would not be convinced by the unavailability of a particular track online.

I'll definitely be up for joining this stuff with my dnb, electro stuff. What styles do you want on the album, I know a lot of very good hiphop dudes who don't go on the forums too much, probably do some project specific lyrics.

I am looking for music that would belong in a video OST or something like that. You can create orchestral, rock, electronic, anything you want! We're not really looking for any hiphop though, unless they can keep it clean. If you send me links to their stuff I'll be more than happy to consider them!

Although if you're looking for video game music, I'd recommend checking here for an electronic one, or here for something orchestral.
