The real problem here is the fact that the Under Judgement flashes aren't a click away anymore, so people have no motivation to go to them because they aren't seen as a major part of the site anymore. If the classic portal was right at the top, there wouldn't be this problem.

This is my main concern.

The blam-theshold should be raised to 2.0 and the early save feature should be removed.

I can't remember ever seeing a flash that I liked being blammed. The system is just too lenient.

One of the big problems is that a lot of people constantly 5 every flash they see because they think that they can't realistically expect a blam point.

Making the theshold an even 2.0 will restore a bit of confidence in the system.

Yupper, we're just getting things off the ground at the moment, been holding off on an official announcement until it's all working properly.

Oh I hate that idea so much I can't even... your ads are now officially more intrusive than the ones Youtube uses. I thought you said you were going to avoid ad revenue programs that you knew would piss of users, what happened to that?

We were making updates to how content is embedded in the page and rather than maintain that feature, we dropped it. NG is starting to get held back by all the features we add and maintain over the years, so we're trying to reduce what we can as we move forward - less clutter (and confusion) on the page, less things to maintain. Most of the new content now fills the box, although it is nice when viewing old content but it wasn't used very much.

This is great, I like how Newgrounds is treading closer and closer to the days of FlashGem version 1.0.

What's the problem with imitators?

Bad submissions being imitated by other authors? Well, it's bad enough to have one author submitting poor quality content, but if another decided to copy him, then you have twice the problem cuz you have 2 spammers now. For example, senn any of the SME's?

  • SME: Miami Vice
    SME: Miami Vice by HardHart

He's a spammer and well, guess what:

  • SME Tribute Movie

I wanted to make my own

    Score

:

And if it gets to a score that low, there's got to be a reason.
Please, be more specific.

Anything that gets to a very low score, like 1.00 or below got that way because it's crap. If it's a decent submission, even if there is hater voting going on, a decent submissions will get enough good votes that they won't get to that low of a score. What if it's something someone tried one? Well, if they tried and it's still at a 0.99 score, then they unfortunately don't have the level of talent that Newgrounds requires. And if it's at that low of a score, do we need it here?

Where is the challenge if everything gets thru and everything stays? Where is the incentive to improve and get better? If no one cares about improving, then we might as well change the name to Newtube and call it quits.

The judgment process went from 3 days to under one hour, although I imagine that might change once this isn't hot news, but it should still be in good shape.
Hopefully you will implement those animations that happen after you save or blam a submission now, makes voting more enjoyable.

Agreed!

Hey Tom, will we ever have Blam and Protect animations again? That really made it fun to blam (and protect) things, and I miss them dearly. :'(

I'm too lazy to check this thread or the links, but has anyone updated the NG help and NG Wiki pages yet?

There should've been a press conference, because Newgrounds has had the same Under Judgement system for over 10 years (or were the numbers tweaked around 2000-'01?). No respect....

If any of the other mainstream websites had been around as long as us, you can bet tens, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars would be spent to grease mass-media machine, with top-shelf liquor, Kevin Bacon and Morgan Freeman as paid attendees, and Luis huggin' everyone's bod.

This is my point exactly. Somehow crap like SME's stuff is passing judgement and then it's up clogging the portal until he takes it down=never

Really cool update. I thought you must have changed something when I saw only about 20 submissions under judgement instead of the usual 65+... I also like the raised threshold for blamming. Hopefully this will get people to blam more!

The one good thing about the current redesign is that it's relatively peaceful with regards to portal spam, and I, for one, wouldn't like to see it ruined. I can understand the need to deal with the backlog of submissions, but there might've been a better way than just to relax the filter.

26 years old and using the word "retards?" Intelligent.

Your logic is moot because it will also make it equally easier for undeserving content to be eliminated just as quickly.

As long as we've got swell users like you (you know, the kind that contributenothingin terms of content but will slam alternative artists while faving Madness movies,) I'm sure the spam groups will be kept at bay.

@TomFulp, this is a really minor issue, but... a while back, some guy sent me a friend request. Before I could accept/deny it, the request disappeared (either he canceled it or the account got deleted). Now there's a little 1 stuck up there forever, even though I don't have any new requests. I can live with it, but just wanted to point it out.

honestly i think the change was terrible. It just means that more content gets saved faster, pushing everything quickly past the pages that actually matter to views.

The system seems to be working well. That it needed to be fixed is a statement that a lot of NG veterans have dropped by the wayside, visits and views on the site are down from their heyday, and those users left care less about quality and more about getting their rankings elevated. Yeah, I miss NG circa 2006, even if the porn ads are all gone.
