If somebody commits theft or misdemeanor battery, then he or she will most likely be arrested and charged with the crime. It may suck for the defendant, but the defendant should have thought about what he/she did before the theft/battery occurred.
It's a similar concept to the BBS banning thing.

Yeah, I really don't understand why people hate the mods here. I've said it before and I'll say it again: the mods here are some of the most lenient I've ever come across on a forum of this size.
I've joined other forums where mods would post correcting your grammar and give you a warning if you continued. This wasn't for blatant errors, I got a warning for leaving a comma out of one of my posts even after I put extra effort into checking everything in all my others. I've been on other forums where I mods told me to stop swearing after I posted "OMG". I've been to forums where even slightly off topic posts were deleted from threads with no explanation.
On Newgrounds you can post shitty threads about masturbation twice a day and tell anyone you want to go fuck themselves and shove a dildo up their asshole. There's no argument whatsoever that the mods here are draconian.

The mods have gotten so much better over the years. No doubt they're better now than they ever were. They don't act like authoritarian douchebags like BBR that ban people for no reason anymore.

The mods used to behave very differently towards users in contrast to each other, but now we all seem to get banned for roughly the same stuff, regardless of the mod. Which is good, because now I don't get banned.

Look at the number of users who threw a hissy fit over me banning a popular user for blatantly breaking two important rules.
Exhibit A:

It wasn't out of nowhere, he broke the rules. I'm very, very lenient with my moderation, anyone who actually knows me will attest to that, but racism and homophobia is where I draw the line. Most times I witness a rule being broken I resolve it through PMs with the offending user; I've only handed out a grand total if three bans in the six months I've been a moderator. "Abusive" indeed.
Personally I find it hilarious that someone would conclude that I abuse my power when I let posts like this slide.
At 8/10/13 02:20 PM, hecticjon wrote: obviously it's gonna make people angry especially since you don't post here and therefore don't actually know how futile it is to moderate this forum
It's very pretentious to think that me not actively posting in General means anything. Either way, I'm aware how lax General is, I've been posting on this BBS for nine years, so I know it well, but I will not tolerate racism and homophobia regardless of where it is posted.

That is exactly why I personally dont like some of the moderation around here, sometimes the BBS needs cleaning and they stand back and watch it rot. And dont give me that "They have lives too, they cant always be on ng" argument when there are at least 20+ active mods here. (There are more mods on then active users) They all have time for their lives, and if they became a mod they should moderate. Im not saying this about every mod, just that when shit is going down there is always a mod on and they just seem to ignore it. It's really frustrating see that. I am saying this not to complain on all the mods here, but to voice my concern about the moderation.
I really want to see NG thrive, but something is a little unsettling about the moderation here.
Again, I like most of the mods personally. I dont hate them because some of them are not too good at their job, I dont hate them at all. I hate how its being handled.

How exactly do you think someone can mod a forum that they don't even post on? That's actually not pretentious in the least, sorry bud.

No action being taken against users breaking the rules doesn't intrinsically imply apathy on our part. It's easy for us to simply miss something; I can't speak for any other mod on here, but I certainly don't actively search for users breaking the rules to reprimand and/or ban. There very well could be someone breaking the rules in the Dragon Ball Storyline Changes thread, but I'm not about to read through a six page discussion of a mediocre TV show to find out.
It's like I said in one of the other threads on here: if you see a post breaking the rules, or even if you think it might be breaking the rules, PM it to me and I'll take care of it, or if you don't like me, and would prefer not talking to me, you can PM it to a different moderator; I'm sure they won't mind.

We can't ignore what we're not aware of. In real life if you witness a crime you would report it to the police, not accuse them of ignoring the crime; the police didn't know about it so of course you wouldn't. If you want the community here to thrive then spend a few seconds and let moderators know about rules being broken. Keep something like that up and it's possible you could become a mod yourself; every moderator on here was a regular user at one point, after all.

I miss times when moderators were men, not child tutors who would publically reprehend users for breaking selective rules that piss them off the most, and then explaining themselves to others in neverending post flow.

Yeah dawg.
He doesn't know we all call each other homophobic, racist dumb shit all the time, and laugh our fucking asses off when we do it. I don't know why it's funny, but errybody else is laughing lol cos we're #incredibly #edgy. Newcomers would prob think we're chucking shit around and won't stay for long, but who cares about them lol #2012usersrule
Because we are in a clique it makes all this (otherwise unacceptable) behaviour ok.

Its not just that. There have been threads made that clearly violate the rules and mods even post in them.
So in your example of how we commoners call the police when we see something wrong, well what if the police are disobeying the law too? Who do we call then? This is what Im talking about, it happens a lot.
There are many examples of this, and I havent seen you do it because I didnt know you were a mod right up until you quoted me but I have seen others do it.
