As in something that really pisses you off. Also, please include examples.

For me, it's trial and error gameplay, where you have to play through a part a million times to memorize it, as it always sends something at you from right around the corner. Example: Special stages in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. I realize it was 1992, technical limitations and all that, but it only renders objects when they are right in front of you. Everything pops out of thin air (if I recall correctly) and if you combine that with the retarded Tails AI that takes twenty years to follow the player's movements, you'll have a mess.

Example 2: Early 3D Sonic games. (Yeah yeah, I like Sonic, I've been playing it a lot recently) Broken camera, ten thousand obstacles at every turn. For example, Rail Canyon in Heroes, where you fall to your inevitable death if something touches your pinky toe. Also, everything in Adventure 2. The camera is adjustable, but it immediately goes back to one set position if you move an inch in any direction.

I also hate unskippable cutscenes. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess did this right, where pressing a button makes a prompt appear, allowing you to skip the cutscene by pressing Start. In other games, there's no such thing. Made especially annoying if the cutscenes are long and you've seen them seven hundred times.

Example: Sonic Adventure, again. Long cutscenes, all unskippable. Sometimes several in a row, with no save in between. My mentality while playing it is, "If I fuck up once, I might as well reset the Dreamcast." I fuck up a lot in that game. I blame the camera as mentioned above.

Now, what about you?

Escort missions, just hate them. All of them

Games that don't let me change my f.o.v. or graphics unless I exit the whole thing and go back to the main menu. (STALKER: Clear Sky). I would also like to add that cs did not have a tutorial level which pissed my friend off because he recently got into the STALKER series and would always die from the emissions at the swamp because they never said that you have to throw a bolt to detect an emission.

Games that pull a bastard move by requiring a specific item to progress or speaking to one specific NPC that isn't made obvious in the slightest at the time, requiring backtracking and artificially lengthening the game.

Games that have piss poor translated dialogue, because the publishers gave fuck all about their audience.

Games that don't allow you to control the camera or have shit angles in general.

I'm sort of OCD, so any lack of an organizational button in menus is a turnoff.

Color palette swapped enemies.

Not play testing your game for major bugs and glitches because you know you can patch it later.

On disc DLC/DRM of any kind.

Excessively long cutscenes that dance around the point and fluff out the moment unnecessarily.

Bad 3D, i'll take well done 2D sprites anyday of the week and so will the rest of the world.

Thinly veiled plot that I can see through only 10% into the game. This becomes progressively an issue as you play more and more games, simply put, you've experienced all the cliches of gaming and it starts to rub you the wrong way.

Not striking a balance between gameplay and cutscenes. Some people have a stick up their ass about "movie games" and I'm not here to preach the holy gospel. Games should be a creative medium to try different ideas, but if I'm watching more than playing reconsider your platform, perhaps approach a movie producer next time instead.

Balancing game mechanics. Players shouldn't be put down for abusing blatant design flaws, it's the developers fault for not correcting them. (testing)

Studios that release AMAZING games, but absolutely REFUSE to advertise. Vice versa applies.

Less variety, allow me to explain. Genres come and go, they have golden ages so to speak. One title reaches an impossible to accomplish margin of profit, then everybody plays mimic and follows suit. The market becomes stagnant with more of the same. This generation is FPS, still curious how the future years will unfold.

I could go on.

People not willing to fulfill their roles. If someone ends up being a support and they refuse to do it and fuck up with others doing their roles as a result. This annoys me even more than for most people as I personally play support the most and as a result when I come across others refusing to do it it really irritates me.

The person you're escorting always gets in the way or gets him/herself killed or doesn't keep up or is annoying in other ways. They're usually very underpowered too, struggling with even the most generic type of enemies.

Half-Life 2 Episode 2 is the only game I can remember where they got it right. For most of the game you'll have Alyx Vance with you but she stays out of the way, easily keeps up with you, is not killable and she's actually a good shot too.

I recently played Clear Sky and I'm certain it told you about using the bolts to detect emissions, I never would've realized otherwise. I never used the bolts in Shadow of Chernobyl either, so you're definitely told at the beginning of Clear Sky.

Timers. I really don't enjoy segments of games that have time limits. I understand that they're make to give you a sense of urgency and stuff but I just find it really hard to enjoy a game when it's trying to make me rush. I like to try and take my time and take in the scenery, so to speak. If there's a timer ticking down on the screen it becomes my priority to just rush through that part as quickly as a can and as a result I sometimes miss secret items or whatever, which can be sort of annoying.

Although I still haven't actually played the game yet, knowing that Majora's Mask is essentially one big constant timer sort of puts me off the game before I've even played it. A lot of people tell me it's not as bad as I imagine it'll be but I really do get the impression that the timer will just make me feel more pressured than I want to feel.

Fighting game bosses. I dont know why more developers go the Persona 4 or Street Fighter route. A character thats balanced enough to be apart of the roster. Instead we get bosses with super armor for everything and unblockable attacks, and in azazels case (from tekken) complete invincibility with no sign of when to hit him.
I dont know what developers are trying to achieve with them. I never or never will say, dude, Marie from Skullgirls was a totally awesome boss battle. Dude you know who was cool? Shao khan in MK9, man that boss fight was sooooooo good. Man fucking AZAZEL, that BITCH-- I mean, woo azazel.

Worst part is you have to fight these bastard even in the arcade mode.

Unskippable cut scenes
Fights you have to lose but aren't clear about that fact
Games that have options not having the obvious best option available.

So you just hijacked the coolest and fastest car in all of GTA 4, you feel like a fucking boss cruising around in recently stolen one of a fucking kin- Why in the hell is there 5 identical cars as mine driving the same street!

I was never a fan of escort missions to begin with, but Dead Rising's escort missions are probably the worst, especially when they seem to walk right into the zombies every couple of seconds without any way of defending themselves, which means you have to constantly backtrack to rescue them and possibly waste precious time in completing the game.

Games with schizophrenic AI, in which one moment they appear to be cannon fodder, and the next they're superhuman and almost impossible to stop at the drop of the hat, never mind all of the bone-headed decisions that they do which only makes things worse. Granted, you don't see this with a lot of modern games anymore, {save for a few} but it's still an annoyance to deal with.

People who bitch about shooter games {particularly FPSs} being popular now. What most of these people don't understand is that game genres goes in cycles. In the 80's and 90's, platforming games dominated, followed by JRPGs in the late 90's and early 2000's, and they were virtually the same mixed bag of games as with first person shooters today. The only difference is that the very same people didn't complain about the glut of platforming games or JRPG's then, and yet they're complaining about FPS games that did the exact same thing now.

I don't know if that's a serious case of gaming myopia over the years, or we simply got spoiled by this generation of games, but there is no consistency with that argument, especially when this has happened for decades before, and they didn't complain then as they do now.

Just stop worrying, and love the bomb.

It's mainly because that kind of car spawns in that area, so when you finally find it you see 5 others.

You really shouldn't feel put off by the timer in Majora's Mask.

If you know what to do, you can beat half of the game in one cycle and then the other half in a second cycle. The game isn't all that long, really. I think it's the shortest of all 3D Zelda's.

If you go through it slowly, it still isn't a problem because you keep all the key items when you go back in time and you can continue from the point where you last left off. For example, if you needed to help a guy to get an item, you don't need to help the guy again if you go back. You can just carry on from that point, even though he's in the same trouble again.

Just give the game a try and see for yourself. A little word of warning: The first cycle goes twice as fast as normal, so don't immediately feel discouraged.

Time. Some game's missions just take waaay tooo looong to complete. Or games that take too long to load because it has to totally optimize shits every time you change something (yeah BF2!!).

All the versus shits between gamers about different platforms. Those guys never really good at gaming because they have spend too much time bitching about shits. For fuck sake, shut up and play what you have.

Idiots who don't know how to play RTT games but pretend to be good. As a veteran of World in Conflict and Men at War, I find noobs highly annoying to play with, especially they're on the same side at your. Then the same on RTS games, but a little bit better because not a lot of noobs are patient type, unless they all use cheats.

AI. Those AIs in STALKER are quite smart but on occasionally they're dumb beyond understandable. Same goes to Red Dead Redemption's AI.

escorts times a thousand.

And when devs plan DLC ahead of time. The beauty of DLC is that they can add stuff later on they hadn't thought of before. If you already had and just wanted to save it to be DLC later, then you're basically selling a fraction of a game and charging extra dor the rest of it.

This is something I only see in modern games but sometimes during certain sequences the audio will drop out of just not load, so when something gets smashed it doesn't make a sound or when you shoot at a chain or something. It happens alot when its not suppose to.

The most recent example would be in shadows of the damned when you buy anything from Christopher. He bites your hand and then vomits the item you ordered once the exchange is done. Sometimes you wont hear the crunch of the bite, or Garcia wont swear, or Christopher wont makes a sound when he vomits, and sometimes all three.
This shit also happens when a cave collapses or something. It's even worse when something blows up. Man, I need meaty sound effects to my games, stop dropping out fucking audio.

Collectibles, especially in open world games. Collectibles can be okay if they're featured in a game based around them, like Banjo Kazooie, but they annoy me in games like GTA IV and Crackdown. The idea that I'm collecting random things and not getting anything really beneficial frustrates me. They always have this shit in games and there are always achievements for them, a lot of times worth like 20g at most. Crackdown's hidden and agility orbs are completely fucking ridiculous (and so annoying too due to the crappy layout of that game) and so are the flags in Assassin's Creed.

When it comes to multiplayer, it has to be either being spawnkilled, lag, or completely stupid weapons. Spawn killing is obvious, everyone hates that, because you have no chance to kill the enemy while they kill you. Lag is also obvious. But what I mean by completely stupid weapons are weapons that either take no skill to use and are easy to get. An example would be the needler from Halo. Whenever I get killed with that weapon, it annoys me because it's so easy to use and it just spawns normally on the map. All you do with that weapon is just spray and pray, and it's not like the assault rifle where you can out gun them either. The needles stick to you so even if you out-gun them and kill them, the supercombine explosion can still kill you.
