The fact that a dark skinned person + a light skinned person = medium colored child is very obvious.
It makes me feel like our genetics are kind of...Shallow? Stupid?
Not sure what I mean.
But what I mean is that you could stand a black person next to a white person with their (brown) baby inbetween, show them off to an alien, and the alien, who's never ventured to Earth, would guess that it's their kid because dark + light = medium is just the most obvious genetic quirk of all time.
It's really hard to explain what I mean, but do you get it?
If genetics are so complex, this shouldn't be the result of a dark/light coupling. It should be more...Complex?

Someone needs to brush up on their biology. It's not that simple at all. What you're explaining, is the pre-mendel theory of genetics....it's 100% false
Although it's true that some gene SEEM to mix (such as human skin color) its actually a complex pyramid of dominance of many different genes.
As Mendel observed in the 1890's by breeding plants, single pairs of alleles are passed to offspring, but this leads to new combination and different gene expressions. It's called principle of independent assortment.
It's pretty complicated to understand if you're not familiar with cell biology, so if you're actually intrested I suggest reading up on it.

It is dependent on the melanocytes. Your cells are not created according to the DNA of a single parent.

It is dependent on the melanocytes. Your cells are not created according to the DNA of a single parent.

If your cells as a whole aren't created according to one parent's DNA then how come it's like that with eye and hair color?

Genetics are what they are. They may sound so simple for you in this case, but in thousands of others they're beyond your mind. No, genetics shouldn't be simplier or different because of that one case, because again, they are what they are.
