Let's even assume they don't do it in a major public place. But they get the "important" people to notice and talk to. Furthermore let's assume that we don't take offensive action and try to kill them.

The honest truth? We're not ready. Mentally. Some of us, higher thinkers would be interested, curious, have questions. However, the vast majority of the retards that walk among us, would freak out. If this got out, via some assholes you tube video via his iPhone5 or whatever. There would be mass panic, riots, looting, killings, possibly even mass suicides becuase of religious or other dumb reasons. People simply could not cope with the idea we are not the utmost advanced civilization there is, or that we are -not- the only thing in the universe.

I honestly think that is part of the reason we've never had a first contact sorta deal. If they are out there, they probably could predict the outcome of a first contact, instead waiting for us to change and wait for a better time to go "Hello out there. Hey, we've been watching you. we feel you are finally stable enough to handle our contact, good for you."

Now this is assuming they come to -us-. Currently that is the only option because we do not have slipstream, faster than light, or other super quick traveling methods to get to far away lands or send a probe to seek out these "Goldilocks planets".

All in all, first contact, even if absolutely peaceful would be devastating once our retarded mass media got hold of it, as our current mental state and society as a whole stands.

That wasn't my point at all. I wasn't saying the aliens would enslave us. I was saying, even if it was completely peaceful encounters we'd go apeshit becuase were not, as a whole mentally ready for contact from another intelligent species. Even if they were let's say space elves and looked very similar to us. with enough differences to be called aliens. If they were drastically differ, like space squid people, then ok it'd just be magnified.

My whole point is that humanity, in the modern age is fucking stupid, and would not react well to aliens. To many religious people would flip shit, to many people would not trust them just becuase they are different, it would cause massive, catastrophic problems. Yes our whole worldly views would change, and with time they could come to be accepted, like anything else. Though at first, there could be problems for these visitors because we have a tendency to act rashly and do dumb shit.
