If it is indeed as our furry buddy says, the police officer is CLEARLY in the wrong.
Most stop lights programmed for busy intersections actually delay green after red, so that red-light-runners don't cause accidents.
Again, if it happened as Xeno says it did, the city needs to pay for the damage, and the officer needs re-training.

Doing something wrong and not getting punished for it. Now where have I heard that one before?
But on a serious note that is sad.

But damn, I'm still pissed that he was able to do that and get away without any kind of punishment.
Why haven't you sued him if he damaged the company truck? ask your gf to dig up your cone of shame.. neck brace...

I think it's either this or you're leaving something out of the story.

You should sue. You could get you a little money. He hit you.
You may not think you are hurt but you will start to feel it when you get older.
You should sue a little. Don't get crazy or anything but you should be able to get 3000 bucks or something to that effect. Maybe more.
Especially since you were arrested. It was his fault and you were arrested that is another good 5K for your bank account.
He did wrong and that is the only way to make them pay. You may be able to get 5k-20k. So it is worth it. He t-boned you, running a red light and then arrested you. SUE THE crap out of him.
You are owed money. Get one of those FREE Lawyers who get paid after settlement. The fact that you were arrested for him hitting you is a problem. The camera online probably caught it.

Now if I may generalize I'd like to point out that cops are terrible drivers. they really are the worst. Except maybe lady police officer drivers! 92% of all deaths in America today can be attributed to accidents where female police officers where behind the wheel.

what kind of truck were you driving? Pick up? Straight Truck? Bob-tail?
30-40 mph, into the side of your truck, is a big impact, you didn't mention any injuries.
How's your neck feeling? You would have been rushed to a hospital first, before the station.
Are you making things a little more dramatic than they really were?

To be fair it probably wasn't near that fast, but it did smash a pretty huge crater in the side of the truck. It was a regular cab 1999 ford, and I didn't really get any bad injuries.
My neck and back is still a little sore, but it's not like "ohmahgerd I need medical attention"

Honestly, I only called him out on it after researching side impact crash ratings of small and mid sized pick up trucks over the last five years.
I felt a little OCD today.

I was taking bong rips in an elementary school yard (stupid idea i know), and apparently someone happened to phone the police on us. We see the cop car roll up as I was holding my bong in my hands, hastily I shove it in my backpack full of water and we get up to leave, but hesitate when we try to decide if we should split up or stay together. Eventually we stay together and agree that the cop car had left. as I reach for my bong, which luckily didn't spill in my sack or anything, we walk around the school and stumble upon him parked and waiting for us in the teacher's parking lot, and he runs up to us.
I drop the bong, still full, back into my backpack and try not to look as nervous as I really was. He questioned me and I talked my way out of a really potentially shitty situation. I think he knew that I was smoking it but he didn't want to detain us for what we had, since we were obviously not trafficking or anything. I've had way too many close calls with cops, this being one of those examples, but I've just been too brown to be suspicious of any criminal activity. I don't dress for fads or anything stupid like that so I think that also contributes as well, because the first impression you make on a cop does mean a lot. I've had cops search my backpack that had drugs and a big blue stanky bong in it and they did not turn anything up. I'm extremely lucky but I fear that one day I'm going to push my luck and lose any chances of travelling to certain countries.

Well, I was told you got about a week to get to the hospital, so they can at least shoot some x-rays at your back and neck, otherwise, they get pissy and may not pay the whole thing. If you start getting headaches, or hear weird shit when you move around, like cricking and cracking, go get checked out. Unless you got some kinda healthcare insurance from your job, you might be suffering later on with no way to take care of it.
I had severe contusions (massive bruising) all over my left side from an accident. 6 full days later while sitting on a lawnmower, I started to feel it. Within 2 hours, the fucking pain made me think my kidney or something got damaged. Next morning I went and got a CT done... 8 shitty hours later they said I was fine, but my neck and back had hellacious disc damage, and they turned out to be awfully correct :|
Neck started to lock up, unless I slept on it just so, lower back... I picked up a log (not even close to heavy), and the damaged disc just ruptured. The disc pressed on the spinal nerve, and the pain was indescribable. Took almost 2 hours just to get out of bed, and 3 days to settle down. Now I know how a grown man can cry and scream out like that, in the ER a few weeks before.
Now building Vault 101, reverse engineered from yesterdays technology.. or I could ignore it, and let you figure it out |:
